Babe's Chicken House (a Vegetarian's Worst Nightmare)

11.12.2012

When I left Chicago four years ago, I left more than my friends, family, and favorite city. I also left delicious food. Good pizza is hard to come by down here, in case you didn't know, and you can forget about hot dog stands. Sometimes I would kill for a slice of Chicago deep-dish or a Portillo's hot dog.

But the one thing the south takes pride in is their ability to fry anything and everything.
At the Texas State Fair this year they fried butter. And beer.
This is for real, people.

If you love fried chicken and you happen to live in/visit Texas, you should make it a point to stop by Babe's Chicken House. It will be the best decision you ever made.
Just make sure you don't eat for three days before so you have room for the deliciousness.
The atmosphere is pure Texas. Animals heads on the wall and waitresses dancing in the aisles to the hokey pokey. (They really do that.)

Babe's only has two things on the menu: fried chicken or chicken fried steak. Then they serve unlimited sides family style.
I would eat 10 of these if I could, but I usually only have room for 1. Curse you, small stomach!

And then, the sides and meat come out. If you order the chicken fried steak, you get a piece as large as your face. Or, you get an entire chicken. You really can't go wrong.
Jordan always gets the steak, and I gobble up the chicken.
Pun intended.
What happens if you can't finish your chicken?
You get a lovely to-go bag. Yum! Chicken in a bag!
You can tell Jordan's excited.
Babe's.
It's what's for dinner.

Go here for locations.
Woo! Fried chicken!

P.S. The bathrooms are awesome. More so the hallway where the bathrooms are located than the actual bathrooms themselves. I'm not going to spoil the secret, but if you've ever been to Babe's, you know what I'm talking about.

Babe's (and Chicken Express) are Curby's two favorite eateries in Texas. We went last year when we were visiting his family and I have to say, I love it too! Although next time I'll get the fried chicken, I think (last time I got the chix fried steak). Aside from the Thanksgiving celebration with his family, our planned lunch at Babe's after church on the Sunday we're in town later this month is probably the thing he is most looking forward to!

I think I need to visit one of these. Have you ever been to Eischens? I haven't, but everyone talks about it around here...
