Hello, Short Hair!

10.01.2013

I've donated my hair twice to Locks of Love--once in 2007 and once in 2011. I was planning on waiting another year and donating it again.

I'm not quite sure what happened.

All I know is that in the time it took me to take a shower, wash my hair, and blow dry and straighten it, I decided I wanted it gone. I'm guessing the final straw was the fact that it takes me so dang long to do my stupidly thick hair.

I texted Jordan's sister Mallory on the way home from church to see if she was available for an emergency hair cut. I didn't tell Jordan what my plan was since I wanted to surprise him, but I did talk him into taking "before" pictures of my hair under the guise of outfit pictures for my blog. He didn't suspect a thing. Blogging for the win.

I originally bought this dress to wear for a night out in Chicago for my twenty-first birthday circa 2007 (ironically the same year I donated my hair for the first time). That means this dress is over 6 years old! I got my $20 out of it, ya think?

I know fall isn't the best time to cut your hair, but I love it! Just what I needed to get me motivated to not look like a slob all the time. Thank goodness Jordan's sister cuts hair.

-Have you ever donated your hair to Locks of Love?
-What's the oldest piece of clothing you own that you still wear regularly?

Your new hair cut looks great.
I wear my clothes to death, many items are over ten years old but I do like to get my money's worth! x

Pregnancy changed any old clothing options for me, but I do still have some theatre shirts from High School.

I love the new hair! I've been thinking about cutting mine into a pixie again, but can't decide if that'll be easier or harder (since I have naturally curly hair) to take care of with a toddler.

You look amazing! That cut really flatters you!

Love the short hair! My oldest shirt is from 8th grade, so 2002!

LOVE the short hair on you! It looks so good!

I love love love the short hair! It looks so great!

And I have more clothes than I'd ever feel comfortable admitting, but I'm also a bit of a hoarder when it comes to my clothes. I keep them FOREVER.. I have the hardest time getting rid of things that aren't falling apart. :P

I've never had truly long hair--just like you, I'll get to one day that I get frustrated, and my hair typically has to be gone within 24 hours of when I get frustrated with it. :P My family is currently trying to subtly encourage me to keep my slightly longer hair! And man, I love that Forever 21 dress--even more that it's 6 years old!! That was a good buy, for sure!

I love it! It looks so good! I've often contemplated donating...my hair is down to the middle of my back. But it's also my "security blanket" so I have a small panic attack when I think about it being gone. I'm hoping one day I'll get over that! What did Jordan think?!

I'm in desperate need of a cut, I'm hoping to get it done this coming weekend.

I am 36 and still have t-shirts from high school I wear, you can't beat the comfort of a worn in t-shirt.

Man, oh man, I'm glad I'm not the only one who keeps clothes FOREVER. I was just telling some friends that I need help getting rid of stuff I've had since high school.

And also, I loved when I cut my hair a few years ago. Feels so fresh! And yours looks great!!

Nice haircut. I've never donated my hair but my daughter did. They told her it was so thick and long they could make two wigs from it.

Oldest piece of clothing is a skirt I've had for probably 15 years. I never wear it and it doesn't fit but I still keep it just in case I need it.

Love your hair! And I actually think fall and winter are great times to go shorter (less time where your hair has to be wet in the cold!).

It's adorable - I love it! My haircuts typically arise in the same fashion; I decide one morning that I need a change and by the end of the day I've done it. I hope Jordan liked the surprise!

LOVE the hair and the dress! And I am totally not a dress person!

LOVE the short hair. I've always thought about it, but I haven't taken the plunge. Every time I chicken out :) I'm so jealous of your shorter blow dry time!

Such a great look! Love it!

Love it!!! You look fab!! I've done the donation thing 3 or 4 times. I only get my hair cut once or twice a year - I'm so hair lazy!! I typically grow it long, chop and donate it, and then grow it again.

Kerry @ Till Then Smile Often said...

Love the shorter hair! Both styles look good on you, so saving the drying time is a bonus!

i seriously love it. you look so great!

I love your hair short! So pretty, but not like it wasn't before. I like mine better short too, but it's been long for awhile. Now I'm tempted to call my hair dresser :p

you look great!

It looks so so great!! And I love your outfit too- never would know that dress was years old! You are rocking it :)

I LOVE it, and this might be just the inspiration I needed to call and make a hair appointment of my own! I am right there with you on the taking-forever-and-a-day-to-blowdry-is-for-the-birds sentiment! I've never donated my hair before, but this could be my first time! We'll see. And ps - all my clothes are old. Haha. A better question for me would be, "What's the youngest article of clothing in your closet?" And I would tell you, but my old clothes have probably already ganged up on it and swallowed it whole!

I love it!

I love the short hair!! It's really cute on you.

My hair simply doesn't grow long enough for me to donate, but my sister has done that a couple of times and loves it. As for the oldest article of clothing... I don't even know! I hang onto things for a LONG time! I think I even have a plaid wool miniskirt (perfect with tights in winter!) that I have had since I was 15...and I'm nearly 29 now. Guess my size hasn't changed much through the years either!

Your haircut looks great! I've donated to locks of love three times, most recently back in July! I have a pair of black pants from 7th grade that still fit and wear :)

Love the new haircut! Super cute!!What was your husband's reaction? I donated my hair in 2009 when I reeaalllly needed a change after my then bf/now hubs moved to Japan!
And I have all of my cross country tshirts from high school (2001), they are so soft and worn out and I LOVE them!

Jena Roach said...

Super cute! I would love to chop my hair. Grahm would cry though :(

Hannah said...

I've also donated my hair twice. I kept it long for my wedding, then two months later I chopped off a foot- what's crazy is that hardly anyone actually noticed! Ten months after that I did the minimum ten inches. That was already four months ago, but I feel like I'm still getting used to having "short hair." :)

Christina @ The Murrayed Life said...

Looove the hair! It suits you well. And all my clothes seem to be old. I'm a clinger when I love something. And I'm in a hateful mood towards my wardrobe today.

It looks absolutely adorable, girl!!! :-) Good for you with the outfit pics trick with the hubs. ;-)

I LOVE it! I'm really into the whole bob thing right now. Also--crazy coincidence, but I've donated my hair to Locks of Love twice as well....and the same years! How cool is that. I love doing it. My hair is really thick and sometimes I get frustrated about that, but because of that, it's perfect for donating. You're awesome! :)

Girl you are rocking the short hair. I love it!!! Thanks for linking up. Cute way to do it! :)

LOVE the haircut! And what a great reason to cut it! Win win! :)

Love the short hair! Super cute! I am considering cutting mine short too. I have never donated to Locks of Love, mostly because I never let my hair grow out long enough yo donate! :)

Hope you are having a great week!

my husband never notices when I cut my hair! i guess if it was that big of a difference he might. :) right now I'm trying to grow mine long!

Your hair looks amazing! With all the moving I have done very few old pieces of clothing have made the journey but just last night I was wearing the sweatshirt with my universities letters on it for my high school graduation. Which means it is ten years old!

You look pretty with long hair too, but so sophisticated with the cut! Love it!

I love short hair on you, Amanda! Seriously, it looks so good!

I have actually donated my hair to locks of love twice too! My hair is so crazy thick that it's great for donating, but it's just too much when it's long. You are making me so ready for a haircut...

I love your new hair and your new picture that shows up on the main page of your blog!!! So cute! I have donated my hair to Locks of Love twice! And as far as clothing... I still have stuff from EIGHTH GRADE.... sweatshirts and the like ;)

Allison said...

I feel your pain on the thick hair that takes forever. I'm usually a spontaneous chopper, too. ;) What did Jordan think? Riley always tries his best to not have opinions about my hair, haha. It's a really flattering cut on you. And the necklace looks great on you too!

Betsy said...

it looks FAB at that length! good decision :)

p.s. I I love it when you work out the cost per wear on a dress and it's like 50¢ haha

Holly Olsen said...

love the new look! And the outfit.

Haha I love how you tricked Jordan into taking your before pictures. I've donated my hair four times now (twice to Locks of Love and the past two times to Pantene Beautiful Lengths). I'm currently letting it grow out for my wedding next year, then I will probably donate it one more time. After that, I don't know if I'll let it get long enough to donate again. I also have thick hair and it is quite the pain in the butt!!
