Awkward & Awesome: I Love You, Whoever You Are

Awesome #1

Every so often I get a text from a wrong number. Once I got a picture text. It was a girl taking a picture of herself in the mirror wearing black leggings and a pink tank top. It was a while ago, but I'm pretty sure the caption said something funny. I laughed and showed Jordan.

But yesterday I got a wrong number text that I think was the best yet.

TEXT #1
7:44 PM
Just texting to say hey and that I love you.

TEXT #2
7:52 PM
Sorry wrong number. But I do love you whoever you are.

So far we have almost 350 people registered for the turkey trot my family puts on in our neighborhood on Thanksgiving morning. This is the 3rd annual 5k and 1-mile fun run. If you live in a Dallas/Ft. Worth area (specifically Flower Mound/Lewisville), you should come out!

If you do, make sure to find me and say hi! All the proceeds support inner-city youth in North Texas. You can read more about how it all started, here.

3: Last week, there was a taco truck outside my office building! AND, they were giving out free tacos! So, I got a taco from a taco truck in the city and ate lunch on the steps of the library. It. Was. Awesome.

4: Speaking of my office building, I have officially been working full time for two weeks! Thanks to everyone who's emailed me to ask how it's going. So far I still love it! Everyone is suuuper nice, and I actually don't mind going to work every day. Imagine that. A job that isn't sucking the life out of me. Brilliant I tell you.

5: Speaking of the library, I decided to beat the commuting blues by finding a good audio book to listen to on my drives to and from work. I chose The Help for my first book, and now I almost don't want my drives to end! Almost.

Awkward #1

So yesterday I woke up at my 5:15 a.m. alarm to head to the gym for a run. I'm kind of a zombie until I actually start running, and apparently I was too tired to realize that one doesn't need to wear sunglasses outside at 5 in the morning.

I walked outside and was all, "Is it darker than normal out here?"

Take off your sunglasses, Kanye.
That's better.
At least I had pants on.
Not that that's happened to me before.*
*It's happened.

And then your neighbor sees you.

Awkward #3

Sitting at a stop sign for a full 2 minutes waiting for the light to turn green.
If a car hadn't pulled up, who knows how long I would have sat there.
I blame the audiobook.

-->And just for kicks, here's another awesome for all my runner friends.<--

Anything awesome or awkward happen in your world recently?
Tell me about it, and I'll give my favorite a shout out in an upcoming blog post!

That wrong number text is amazing! Nice to know that someone loves you, even if they're a total stranger. :)

Also, I'm so glad that you're loving your new job. It must be such a relief to be back to working and the fact that your job doesn't suck your soul out is even better! I think I might steal the Awkward and Awesome for my own blog. You should try a link-up!

Z said...

I agree with Alison - make this a link-up, hahah! And waiting for a stop light to turn green...I do that all the time...

Funny story - an old guy used to leave me voicemails constantly. "I love you, please call me Virginia. I just want to talk to you", etc. Well, my name is not Virginia and I have saved at least a dozen voicemails. I have talked to him too, but the dude won't leave me alone!

I love wrong number texts. I once had someone text me and say that I should come over because his parents had just left and they could party. He seemed pretty worried when I told him he had the wrong number! :)

Hmm...interesting about the audio book for a long car ride. We have quite the commute too. I usually just sing my heart out the whole way but on mornings when I have no voice, that sounds like a good idea. The Help is such a great movie!

Sounds like an interesting person! Whoever that is.

Oh - you can also try listening to podcasts during your commute. Lots of them on iTunes.

My Christmas decorations are halfway up, and that is definitely pretty awesome. I'm not usually an early decorator, but we are always traveling for almost all of December and I just want a chance to enjoy MY stuff in MY house! :)

Loving that text! And glad to hear you're loving your new job! :)

Oh, and I just read that running article! Very funny! The original one is plain annoying and ridiculous, but the Runner's World take on it is amazing.

1. Congrats on the new job!! This is amazing news!!! I really hope you like it more and more as time goes by :)
2. The Help is great. Take a long route to work methinks.
3. Yesterday I got in the lift (elevator) with a colleague who said he'll drop me home. I pressed "G" and he was like, "um, no, my car is in B3". We get to G and I head out. Even though he says "not here". omg awks.

Love your posts! Have a great weekend!

When we lived in California Fredrik would get texts with pictures from random people all the time and then ones from a kid asking why his mom has not called in months!

I love all your awesomes. I want a smartphone so that I can text back funny pictures when I get a wrong number. Not that I really ever get wrong numbers since I've had my number for about 8 years, but still.

I've done that stop sign thing before. More than once.

It makes me SO happy that even after realizing it was a wrong number, they still loved you. Makes me happy.
I want a taco.
I've tried to unlock my front door with my car remote. I've also tried to turn on my TV with it.
And that Runner's World article made me LAUGH. Definitely a great start to my Friday. :P

Glad you found a way to combat the bad drivers on your commute by listening to audio books.

bahahaha,
at least that's one polite message sender.

That random text is awesome! Can't believe it is up to 350 people, that is so cool! I so need to stalk a taco truck! SO glad the job is going well!

I grabbed my toothbrush instead of my keys on my way out at 5AM the other day.... it's too early for our brains to work right at that time! Have a great weekend!

Oh my gosh this made me laugh so hard. What a nice message you got from a stranger!! Greg was getting messages and texts from one number for about a year... on Christmas we got a huge family photo and a recording of Feliz Navidad sung by the family. AWESOME. (it was a giant Mexican family... all the messages were in spanish or mostly spanish!) doubly awesome. it was all full of love, which was the best part!

That text is the best!! I love that they sent that :) And I've definitely used my car clicker to try to open my house, but I didn't get caught :) If I lived in Texas, you can bet I'd be doing that run!! How wonderful you're family started that!

Unknown said...

All of this made me laugh so much! It was perfect. I especially love the text back, but I love you, who ever you are. " Also I tried desperately hard to think of awesome and awkward moments, but apparently I live an incredibly boring life... at least this week. Wait, awesome moment... when I learned to make pumpkin doughnuts.

Jenn @ What You Make It said...

Oh my goodness, this is so hilarious! I've never gotten a wrong number text, but I've read some funny ones online. Ooh, The Help is so good. I wouldn't want to get out of my car : ) I'm kind of a loner who loves long drives by herself. True life. And I feel like I've definitely tried to open something that was not my car with my car clicker, so totally relate to that!

I used to get texts from wrong numbers ALL THE TIME!
pics of a guy and his dog, one that said 'I paid all the bills', and several arguing with me that I in fact was Scott.

Free Tacos! AWESOME!
Your Awkwards are awesome too.

my awkward today is that it took me 4 times to spell awkward right.

I'm so glad you have decided to share these moments for the benefit of all your readers :) Really, awesome "awesome" stuff and funny awkward stuff! And the ending of that article was just great "he's angry…and you know what's good for that don't you, Chad?" HA!

So glad you're enjoying your job!

OMG HAHAHA i can only imagine that persons face when they realized it was the wrong number. But how sweet to follow it up with "I love you anyway?" So stinkin cute.

Charity said...

That text is priceless!! Also awkward number two happens to me often because I were transition glasses and number 3 oh man! I thought I was the only one who did that. I feel so much better about myself, I honestly thought it was my OCD picking up again.

Rachel said...

I cracked up at the text!! Hilarious, and just about the best thing to do when you realized that you sent a wrong number text...

I use my SmarTrip (metro card) to open my apartment door all the time. well, I try to....

Hahaha. The awkwards made me laugh. I want to hear the rest of the no-pants story. Last week, I checked the mail with my shirt unbuttoned to my navel. Not a big deal except we have community mailboxes, so I crossed the street and everything. When I noticed (once I was home), I said to myself, "Oh goodness. Okay I'm definitely going to button this thing before I go to my in-laws' later." Why wouldn't I just button it then? I don't know, but I almost had a very close call with my father-in-law. Ahem.
I'm so glad you like your job!!
Do you remember the author from California who referred to "Thunder Time"? As in Central Time but hilarious, but not really hilarious at all.
