I know I said I would have my "Life of an Editor" post up today, but I HAVE to tell you guys something amazing that happened to me last night! (This is why I don't like to plan out my posts. It always gets messed up anyway.)
Earlier this year, I posted a goal of mine that has been on my 30 by 30 list: to be able to do 3 unassisted pull-ups. That was March 31, and since then I have been working on my arm strength. I bought a pull-up bar for over the door, I bought body bands to help with assisted pull-ups (thanks, Beka, for the idea!), and I have been practicing pull-ups almost every single day since the end of March.
I've gotten so frustrated because I haven't seen any progress. I've even pulled down the bar off the door a few times and pouted while bemoaning my wimpy arms. But I have been getting closer and closer, and...
Last night I finally did THREE IN A ROW!
I thought maybe last night would be The Night, so I had Jordan film it for me. Check me out! Almost exactly 6 months to the day.
I am pumped. PUMPED. Shout-out to Jordan for all the encouragement. I really couldn't have done it without him.
If you work hard at it, you can do it. That's a fact. Amen.
*Back to regular programming tomorrow with my Life of an Editor post. Thanks for indulging me.
YAY! Congratulations! Those were some mean pull-ups! :)
You're so cute after you did them, love it! And congrats!
OH MY GOSH! This is amazing. As someone who still brags about the half pull-up that I did in 3rd grade gym class, I can't even imagine doing 3 pull-ups IN A ROW. I swear, there is no sarcasm involved in this comment. This is straight up inspiring! Nice work!
Totally awesome!!!!!!! Congratulations!
Yeah girl!!! I did 3 sets of 12 yesterday... assisted with about 75% of my body weight. ;)
You rock!!!!! That is awesome!!!!!
Woohoo! Congrats!!! I love that you got a video of it, too. :)
Go go, guuuuurl!
(I love the support from your husband!)
Congratulations!!!
Congrats!! That is so awesome!
Yay!
When the video finished YouTube suggested that I would be interested in videos on unassisted birth. No thanks. More pull-ups, please.
That's awesome! You've motivated me to use my boyfriend's pull up bar as more than a place to hang my winter coat when it's not in use.
Dang girl that's awesome! That's some serious arm strength! I used to be able to do two in high school, now you've made me want to see if I can even do one anymore haha!
I'M SO IMPRESSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are amazing!!!
WAY TO GO!!!! :) :) :)
Awesome!! I'm working on doing 1 unassisted and this gives me hope that some day I too will be able to do a I did a pull up post!
Haha! Congrats!
Congratulations! I'm seriously impressed. I can sympathize with the wimpy arms sentiment.
You did it!!! That is so awesome. I'm so impressed! Congrats!
Wow, how cool is that?!! Awesome! And you almost did a 4th one there!
Wow! Awesome!!
WOOHOO! I bow to you. Teach me your ways.
Such a beast.
That's awesome! Way to go!!!
YOU GO GIRL!!!!! I will get there one day.... one day! ;)
YAAAAYYYYY! Get it girl!
I totally watched this last night on g+! You're totally killing!
Ha! This is awesome! I have no upper body strength. My husband has one of these doorway pull up bars on our closet, and I swing on it like every single day. I just can't resist the urge! Actually pulling myself up is so not happening though.
Woohoo!!! You go girl!!! :-)
WooHoo way to go!!
Ahhh you are AMAZING!!! This is seriously incredible to me, I want to be able to do this so badly! Not that I've been practicing but I can't even do one. What do you do to work up to it?
So, honestly the biggest factor was getting a pull-up bar and actually doing real pull-ups almost every day. I highly recommend buying Body Bands from Amazon (or a fitness store). They have different levels of resistance so you can get a higher resistance and practice that for a while and then move down until you can do them on your own. I started with the purple band and then worked with that for a long time (like 3 months maybe) and then bought a red band.
I also did a lot of pushups. For over 2 months I added a pushup every day, and by the end I was doing 75 at once. But then we went to Nicaragua, and I stopped doing that.
That's hilarious you say that, because after I watched the video (yes, I watched it. Multiple times. Don't judge me.), YouTube recommended unassisted births, and I had the exact same thought! Um. no. ha!
Thanks so much! :)
That's awesome! Nice work, Katie!
Beyond awesome! You go, girl!
Congrats! :]
Rockstar!! Kevin watched this over my shoulder and he said, "Those are LEGIT pull ups too - very controlled." So. You got two 10's from the New Mexico judges.
-Amy
Way to go!!!! I can't even do 1...It's sad. :)
YOU ROCK! I've had a goal of just doing ONE pull-up for ages but I've yet to really commit to the doing to work for it...maybe you've inspired me :)
WOOHOO!!! That's awesome! Your an official bada$$!
Yay!!! My workout partner (who is a BEAST in the gym) has always told me that pull-ups are one of those things that you have to practice consistently to be able to do - so that is some commitment! Rockstar. Rock-freakin-star.
Nice work! Pull-ups are so tough, I'm impressed!!
I know I already commented on FB but I'm commenting again because this is just so good! Pull ups are hard and are a major achievement!
PS - I'm catching up on blog posts, hence the 5+ comments from me.
I did push ups first the time time in forever a few weeks ago and I think I'm finally not sore anymore…awesome job!!! My first part is " I DID THREEEE" :)
