Lots and Lots of Cortisone Cream

10.10.2014

One of my best friends is coming from Illinois to visit me this weekend, and I'm so excited to sit down with her and just have a good, old-fashioned friend talk. I thought today I'd share some of that with you guys too.

You all know by now that I don't like coffee, so if we met at Starbucks, I'd order a chai. Or maybe I'd finally break down and try my very first pumpkin-spiced latte! Can you believe I've never had one?

If we met for coffee, the first thing I would do is show you my legs.

I know that sounds weird, but it's not because I'm fishing for compliments on my shapely calves. The opposite, in fact: my shins and knees got completely destroyed on Sunday during my Tough Mudder, and they look terrible.

Someone at work said they look like an angry cat got ahold of me. And they would be right. It's quite painful, and on top of that I'm sore ever-y-where. Like, possibly as sore as after I ran my marathon. It's Friday now, so I've had about a week to recover and they don't look as bad. Now they're at the stage where itchy scabs are forming. Super attractive.

(*True story: I just had to run into the other room and slather Cortisone cream on both my knees.)

I think if I did another one of these, I would wear longer pants or kneepads or something. I texted my brother on Monday to ask if he was sore, and he said, "Well, my left calf is a little tight." Ugh. Rude.

I'd talk more about my race, but I'm saving a full recap for my Runners Tell All post later this month, so you'll just have to wait for that (October 21!). I'll just say this for now: it was pretty epic. Anyone else ever done one of these?

Then I'd tell you that we got pre-approved for a house!

I've been living in an apartment since 2008, and I am over. it. Not to mention our across-the-porch neighbor who moved in a few months ago and keeps asking us if we want to hang out on the balcony with him and smoke. Um, no. A few months ago we got invited to go to the pool with him and drink but only if we A) had Sprite to bring as a mixer with the liquor he'd just bought and also only if we were B) willing to "sneak the alcohol into the pool area." Double no.

I want to know what it is about me that screams, "Why yes, I am totally the type of person who sneaks alcohol into the pool." Come on, guy.

I'd probably end up telling you about the Beth Moore Bible study I'm in right now on Wednesday nights at church. The study is over 1 & 2 Thessalonians, and for real, you guys, she is speaking to me. I hate how easy it is to push personal devotion time aside during the week, because when I'm doing a Bible study and commit to daily study, I remember how much I love it.

If we went for a coffee date, we would for sure end up talking about blogging. Because that's just a topic that is often on my mind. I would tell you that I've been wanting to design a new header for my blog for a while now, but I haven't had the time to work on one. I also can't think of a design idea I like. So this one is staying for now.

I have considered just paying someone to help with my blog design, but I spent all of October's blow money last month on new brown boots, so I'm completely out of cash at the moment. Budgets are such a buzz kill.

There's a lot more I could mention. So much of life doesn't make the blog, and isn't it funny the things we choose to share and keep private? I'm really excited about my "Day in the Life" video I'm sharing next week. I got the idea from a few other blogs I read, and I think it's really fun, so hopefully you do too.

I hope you all have a great weekend. As always, thanks for reading. We're all so busy, and there are so many great blogs out there to read. I really do feel honored you're taking the time to read mine.

To conclude, I'll share a picture from my brother's wedding this past June. (Remember when I got all emotional and met my blog fans?) They recently got their pictures back, and I'm absolutely in love with this one. I'm thinking about blowing this up mega-sized for the wall in my living room so it's the first thing you see when you walk in the door. I mean, this is just amazing, right?

I love these people.

Linking up with Jenna for Coffee Date.

A house! A house!! I'm so excited for you guys because this has been a long time in coming. Mazel tov!

Hey, a real house? That's crazy. I honestly can't imagine that type of commitment...maybe my age is showing there...
And that photo is AWESOME in capital letters.

That is a pretty amazing wedding photo!
When I first started my new job, everyone thought I was an alcoholic. They had nothing to actually base their opinions on, in fact one woman finally just said "you're young and pretty so we figured you were a party animal." Ummmm....what??!?
On another note, I've never ran a Tough Mudder but I kinda sorta want to. So I'm looking forward to your recap post!!

Yay for moving on up from apartment living! I was an apartment-dweller for years, but then the Army provided a huge house for my husband and I to live in. (It was 3 stories!) We only lived there briefly, but there was no going back to an apartment after that. Although, we rent our current house; I'm too scared to buy.

I did Warrior Dash an eternity ago (aka 5 years ago), and from what I can tell, Tough Mudder is way, way more hardcore. Hats off to you! Can't wait for the recap!

haha,, i LOVE that last photo. you guys are the best

That race sounds brutal and your neighbor guy sounds pretty creepy. I think I'd try to find a way to creep HIM out! lol...Actually, I'd keep my door bolted and never leave the apartment unless I was sure he was far, far away. I'm a wimp.

Yay!!! For a new HOUSE, Bible study time. And giving your blog a little face lift whenever you get the time or an idea that won't leave you alone. :)

Thanks for the coffee! I'm pretty sure we'd spend so much time talking about the creepiness of your neighbor. And then, we'd get up to leave and see him at the table right behind us. We'd just look at him, and then each other, and all accusations would be proved case in point.

Congrats on the pre-approval! SO EXCITING!!!

Congrats on the pre-approval! Now the fun part of looking! Your neighbor sounds pretty sketchy, so I hope you find something soon!

P.S. I love coffee and I have not had a Pumpkin Spice Latte either. I refuse to pay $5 for my coffee, and that's wayyyy to many calories for me!

That photo is great!

Pre-approved!!! Yay! Be sure to let the across the porch neighbor know where you move so he can still cause awkward moments in life (because who wants to miss out on smoking and alcohol-sneaking fun?).

I've also never had a PSL - does that make me a bad blogger?

I hope your knees heal up soon!

Looks like quite the race! Hope you're completely recovered from it soon! The Bible study sounds good...your neighbor gave me a laugh, but he sounds pretty odd--not quite like the ideal neighbor!

AWESOME on the pre-approval, super exciting time!!! :) And your poor legs-- ugh! Your exchange with your brother made me laugh though because that's totally Jared and I. After a race, or even just an intense workout I'll be all "I'm dyyyyying, everything hurts, help meee!" And he'll be all calm like, "Yeah, I feel ya- my foot hurts a little" Ha ;)

The Lady Okie said...

bahaha! Okay if I saw him somewhere else than my apt building, I would be worried! Oh gosh. Luckily he doesn't really give off a creepy vibe so much as a drunk and/or possibly high vibe. Not that that's better....

Boys, right? I mean seriously. So annoying! haha. Love 'em, though :)

And yes SUPER excited about potentially getting a house finally. Although also freaking out because that is just a ton of $$ we're dealing with now. Yikes!

Congrats on the pre-approval! I remember how desperately we wanted to get out of our apartment... crazy neighbors and all! haha have a great weekend! :)

Ba ha ha your neighbor sounds great! NOT! That will be wonderful to have a house!!! I can't wait until that day either! Oh no your legs sound sore! I have never done a tough mudder but would like to some day! Good for you girl!

Mad props on the Tough Mudder! You are such a beast. Can't wait for the recap.
Huge congrats on the pre-approval! Your new neighbor sounds super whack. I've never met you (obviously) but I am having a hard time seeing how anyone looks at you and thinks you are down for those kinds of activities. He sounds like a great example of why you shouldn't do drugs.
Happy weekend!

Congrats on the Tough Mudder finish and qualifying for a house. You have talk about that a few times so I am glad that is becoming a reality. Have fun looking.

I just learned (and you probably already know this) that Starbucks' PSL has no pumpkin in it. Just the pumpkin pie spices. Also so excited for your house pre-approval. Have fun shopping!

Congrats on the pre-approval! House hunting is so much fun. I think so anyway. I stalked zillow for months even before we were actually ready to buy. I think in another life I would have been a good realtor. I love those day in the life posts!

So many exciting news! Congrats on being pre-approved, that's so great! Your neighbour sounds like a very "special" guy - what a gem. Get a house with a high hedge all around it - high fences make good neighbours ;-)
Fun stuff coming up on your blog, can't wait to see it all!

YAY for the house (and NAY for the legs)!
And that wedding photo is PERFECT.

Congrats on moving forward on a house! That's so exciting. Sorry about your legs though, that does not sound as fun as buying a house. Those wedding pictures look so fun!

I always feel like I have so much to respond to when I read your posts, so here goes...
#1 congrats on the tough mudder, I've heard they're killer and I look forward to hearing more about yours!
#2 congrats on the pre-approval, that's so exciting; I know how much you've been over the apartment and I'll be praying everything goes smoothly for you! (and of course you look like the type of person that would sneak alcohol into the pool... obviously).
#3 is that Bible study called "Children of the Day"? if so, that is tooootally the next one on my list to do after I finish my current one by Beth Moore. You're like the 3rd person I've heard that really likes it! Not gonna lie, it's motivating me to finish my current one so I can get to that one quicker.
#4. That picture is awesome in so many ways. Woo hoo!!

Congrats on the house approval--how exciting! And I can't wait to hear more about your Tough Mudder!

I don't think coffee nor have I had a PSL either! I'd probably get a hot chocolate. Congrats on the pre-approval!! I did apartments for 3 years and I was so ready to be done with it…Now I'm in a townhouse and I really hope I don't have to go back. I wish you could pick and choose your neighbors. You definitely need that picture blown up - it is awesome!!

Hooray for the pre-approval! That's so exciting. I can't wait to hear about your house search. Will y'all look around the area where y'all currently live? I'm sorry to hear about your poor legs! I hope they heal quickly.
Oh, and that photo really is amazing! I don't think it could be any more perfect!

That wedding picture is absolutely wonderful! Congratulations on the pre-approval! I'm sorry you've got a bad neighbor, but I think it's hilarious that he thought you would be happy to sneak some alcohol to the pool like a wayward college student. I mean, that's most definitely the vibe you put off, for sure.

Aren't neighbors THE WORST?? I feel very lucky that all my neighbors just keep to themselves. However, that does make it hard when I need to borrow a cup of sugar... (just kidding, there is always sugar in my apt.)

Yah for getting a house! That sounds like most exciting news ever!

I am pretty sure my dumb downstairs neighbors would love your dumb balcony neighbor.
