Great way to review the year!

I love this! I almost had a heart attack when I saw only $200 for race registrations….my bank account wants me to be able to say the same thing, but my heart and brain just aren't there yet ;)
What did you think of the Erik Larson books you read? I just finished The Devil in the White City, which I liked but didn't love, so I'm curious if his other books are worth checking out or not.

love this idea of a year recap! :) i just may steal it next year!! and how neat that you put all of your project 12 pictures together!!! :)

what a fun post!! way to go with all your miles!! and that is strange how close the two years are with your tweets!

I somehow feel vicariously accomplished after reading this post. Like I should pat myself on the back, too. I loved reading it! Also, your 2013/14 twitter stats are uncanny...

I am kind of blown away by your average monthly savings. I need to get better at that!

I'm not judging you at all for One Tree Hill. For treadmill running, I watch Gilmore Girls, Parenthood, and Revenge. Shows that Hubby won't watch with me!

Love this and what a great year you had! I'm pinning that book image for this years reads! What did you think of We Were Liars...I listened it to and had very mixed feelings.

this is an awesome way to recap the year. I especially love how honest you are with budgeting. Do you have any budgeting tips?

cheers to 2015!

The Lady Okie said...

Probably our best budget tip is to have a certain amount of what we call "blow money" every month. Jordan and I both get a certain amount, and we can use it on whatever we want, but when it's out, then no more buying stuff for ourselves until the next month starts over. It really helps me think about whether I really really want those new shoes or if I just think I want them :)

The Lady Okie said...

If you didn't really like Devil, I don't know if you would like his other books, because they are very similar as far as author voice, research, etc. I loved Devil in the White City, but then again I'm from Chicago so that probably helped :) I love the way he writes and really appreciate the detail and the obvious research he's done to write these books, but they can get dense sometimes. In the Garden of the Beasts was the better of the two Larson books I read this year, and I actually gave it to a friend for Christmas, and he loved it. But he loves history and WWII books. The other one was good but a bit dull in places, so I'd skip it.

It was really interesting.. I did not see the ending coming at all. I liked it, but I wouldn't put it down as one of my favorites of the year or anything.

Definitely keeping that book image for new book ideas this year, too! 2014 was a year where I FINALLY started making time for reading again and I read 15 books which was probably double the previous year. Now that it's back into my life regularly I can't believe how much I missed it!

Kristen said...

Wow. What you spent on clothing etc all year is what I spent in one month (twice!) earlier in 2014. It was such an eye opener for me, lol. I want to get to your numbers! I totally need a new pair of running shoes.. and I hope you ate a bunch of donuts to make up for all the ones you burned ;)

Unknown said...

Look at you guys! So many smiles! So many burned donuts! So many tweets!
Happy new year, Amanda. May 2015 be as exciting as 2014. :)

Tara said...

Love this! I might have to keep track of all this for myself this year because it's so neat to see the final totals. I got a GPS watch for Christmas so at least my miles will be logged! :)

Katie @ Daily Cup of Kate said...

How fun! Waita go on the savings- I need to work on that this year!

every single time you post a monthly of you and jordan, i'm always thinking 'such a good idea, i should do that,' and then the idea floats off to somewhere and i forget and it doesn't happen. looking at your collage, however, i'm feeling a strong conviction that i need to make it a priority - it's just such a fun reminder of all y'all have done together over this year (or highlights and how you've changed). ALSO: i'm incredibly impressed that you only spent $400 on clothing/shoes/jewelry/misc - another challenge for me, perhaps?

This is such a killer idea for a recap post, I love it!! I also don't know where to start because I was impressed by so many things. First, your amount of books that you read continues to blow me away. Second, is that an app that shows you how many miles you ran each month or did you make it yourself? I think it would be neat to see my total miles each month like that! You guys visited a lot of states! It motivates me to get out more this year! You must have some totally killer gas prices; maybe I'll move to Oklahoma. And you guys saving that much each month is totally awesome, good for you guys! :) I'm headed over to read your 2013 post... I love numbers haha :D

I really don't buy clothes all that much, which is why this capsule wardrobe stuff is kind of funny to me because I pretty much have that without really trying. About twice a year I go crazy and spend $80 at the Banana outlet and then have buyer's remorse.

Although I don't think that $400 includes my running shoes, which are $125 a pair. Priorities, you know ;)

I love this kind of recap post. To be honest (and possibly sound like a jerk?), month-by-month recap posts don't usually interest me. It's like, okay I've been reading your blog this whole time. I already read about all this stuff! But to each his own :)

The running graph is a screenshot from dailymile.com. I've been using it for a few years now and love it. It gives you all sorts of fun graphs and info to keep track of. Plus, there is nothing better than getting home from a workout and logging in to input your mileage/workout. If you sign up for an account (for free), you can friend me and we can see each other's workouts!

Also, yes Oklahoma has one of the lowest costs of living in the country. It's pretty nice.

ah! I loved this post! I never thought to recap all of those things, but I love that you did! Yay for visiting 8 states last year and for going out of the country! SO awesome!! New Girl, Psych, and Gilmore Girls!! YES! I haven't seen the Mentalist or One Tree Hill though, maybe I should! Also, YAHOO for 582 miles ran!! I might have to read some of those books!! I see a couple that have been suggested to me, so I need to make my list!!

Kerry @ Till Then Smile Often said...

The number of donut burned running is hilarious! You got to see so many states this year, lots of travel. I love the Mentalist, and have been catching up on it too.

You have such great ideas! Love this post.

And all those books - I'm going to shop that list, ok??

You know we'll be forever friends because of our mutual affection for Kate Morton, right?

You're traveling inspires me. Hoping to join that train in 2015. :)

I haven't seen this style of post before but love how it lays everything out! That's a lot numbers to add up and a lot of miles. You rock for doing it all!

I love these posts of yours! Such a cool way to review a year!

Tania @ Run to Radiance said...

Ummm I feel like we are book twins!!! I read like 2/3rds of those this year. So good. Kate Morton is my new favorite. this was such a fun and different way to review your year! Love it! :)

Allison said...

I love how great you are at keeping track of all these numbers each year! A fun review of the year! And 8 states? That's awesome!

Taylor said...

wowowowo! this is so cool to break it down in numbers! it makes things so quantified, even down to the money you saved. neat idea!! and go you for all the miles you've got under your belt running!

Megan said...

Yeah, By the Numbers!! So many books this year; nice job! Also, I watched ALL the seasons of OTH on Netflix. I was also very embarrassed, but I just couldn't stop. It isn't even good.... :/ Cheers to 2015!

Unknown said...

Whoa! You read so many books! I wish I would read more, but it just doesn't happen. I also love that you have all your workouts counted. I want to do that!

Food, Booze, & Baggage said...

I love this post style!! My numbers would be something really scary, like how many meals we ate out...yikes :) We have similar reading tastes, I'm going to have to look up the few that you listed I have not read. Is it sad you spent more on gas than date nights...hopefully the prices will stay down this year.

Shelley said...

what a fun way to recap the year! i love how honest you are about your budgeting and how much you saved.

Jenna Griffin | Gold & Bloom said...

I really want to do something like this next year to recap where we've been, books i've read, milestones, etc. I love how you've done this! It's so fun to look back and see all that happened in a year's time, isn't it?

Rach said...

Oh man, I would not want to add up how much money we've spent on gas for traveling this year. Yikes. We have a monthly budget that we keep where I could add it all up for the year, but I'm a little bit scared to know, haha!

Also, I am totally on a Gilmore Girls watching kick right now! Love that show!
