Ask Anything Answers: Part 1 [A Vlog]

2.15.2015

In today's post, I will be answering some of the questions I got in my "ask anything" post a few weeks ago. The comment box is still open, so feel free to keep adding questions!

Below the video are the questions I answered in this first vlog. Next to each question are the times so you can jump to a specific question if you don't feel like watching the whole thing. The video should be embedded into the post, but if you're having trouble, watch it on YouTube here.

1. (0:30) Do you ever plan on moving from Oklahoma?
2. (1:03) If you didn't live in Oklahoma, where would you live?
3. (1:37) What does Jordan do for his job?
4. (2:56) How often have you edited/deleted old blog posts?
5. (4:25) Name a habit you are most proud of.
6. (6:00) You used to respond to almost every comment that you got, but I've noticed your responses are way down. What changed?

More answers will be coming at you soon!

Question: Do you like the vlogs, or would you rather I just wrote down all the answers in a regular blog post?

I liked the vlog! I have only noticed it once, but there was a comment once I scrolled through and saw on my blog that I never got an email about. I'm not great at checking my blog directly for comments because I just wait for them to come to my email, but now that you mention it, I have had that happen to me too!

Right there with you - no tolerance for people who can't get their ish together in order to meet deadlines.

I like the vlog format, but there seems to be this weird rapid beeping noise to the audio? Don't know if that's something weird going on with YouTube or something in the background noise. Or if I just suck and hear beeping that's not there.

The Lady Okie said...

So annoying! I wonder what causes that to happen. I hope it doesn't do it very often, because I really don't scroll through comments on my blog very much. I just don't want anyone to feel left out when they leave a comment!

The Lady Okie said...

Yeah.... I didn't hear it when I first listened to it, but now that you mention it I totally hear that sound. I'm 99% sure it's my ghetto computer. I got it in 2008, so you could say it's on the fritz by this point. But I really REALLY don't want to have to buy a new one!

I enjoy the vlog. I totally thought the beeping was my furnace, which is working hard since its so freaking cold! :)

Love this vlog, as always!! Yea, I wonder if the person that asked that saw your responses to some of the comments in the thread and thought those were the only ones you responded to...not knowing you responded to all of them via email. That's the only thing I can think of!

I'm excited to see more of your ask anything vlog posts!

It's 4 degrees here today! Stay warm :)

The Lady Okie said...

Thanks, Jenna! I think that must be it. But I wanted to address the question. Don't want anyone feeling left out!

Jordan is an electrician?! It would be really helpful if you guys were our neighbors. Are you suuuure you don't want to move away from Oklahoma? Memphis is pretty awesome. ;) We are pretty fearless with house projects and take on more than we really know how to do (thank you, Youtube tutorials). But we shy away from anything with electricity because... well... we don't want to be electrocuted, haha! ;) So it would be helpful to have a electrician as a close friend (we had one, but he moved away).

I am definitely not a procrastinator either! If I don't do something immediately it will sit forever and it drives me crazy to know it's just sitting there waiting forever. So I do things pretty much immediately. You wouldn't know this from how back logged I get on blog reading (where I read 3-4 in a row) and email responding, but it's more that I set aside certain days or mornings for blog reading/responding. So I'm not procrastinating, I just have it scheduled for blocks of time instead of responding to each comment/email & reading blogs as soon as they're written. I feel like I'd be attached to my phone all the time. Okay, way enough over explaining, haha!

Also, I've had a problem in the past week with not getting emails from comments that were left on my blog and I found them in my spam! I'm not sure if that's what happened to your comments too, but it might be worth checking.

I love the vlog format for these questions by the way! I think it gives much more depth to your answers.

It got me thinking...am I a procrastinator? Would Lady Okie like me or get mad at me? I think it depends on the topic at hand. One thing I never ever ever procrastinate about is cleaning. In fact, I cannot relax in my own home if I put off cleaning. Same goes with unpacking. I will wait until the last minute to PACK my suitcase, but unpacking happens as soon as I get in the door. My husband and I have a contest to see who can unpack their suitcase the fastest, in fact. But as far as work goes, I do tend to procrastinate a project until I get all the pieces of info I need or it's just a HUGE project that I cannot comprehend how I'm going to do it, so I let it sink it a bit. I tend to get the little things crossed off my list first. If you give me a deadline though, you can bet that I'll make it. I hate being late or missing deadlines. So I guess we can still be friends, right? :)

He is really handy to have around. If we decided to build a house, he could wire the whole thing! I don't really have a scheduled block of time when I read posts and respond to comments. I kind of just do it whenever I can. But I can see not being attached to responding, and sometimes I feel like I am. That's one reason I tried out my "no comments" thing a few months ago! It was nice to not have any comments, but I definitely missed the interaction.

And thanks for the suggestion! I try and stay on top of my spam, but you never know. It could definitely go in there!

I like the Vlog version. I agree on procrastination, I tend to be really early on everything. Waiting on people who wait to the last minute really irks me. I'm in Wordpress and I sometimes notices that some comments i don't get emails on either and i have to try and reconstruct the email.

The Lady Okie said...

I think we can be friends :) I definitely know what you mean about waiting on a huge project. Sometimes you really just don't know where to start, and it takes a while to get going.

And I TOTALLY agree about unpacking. Jordan will leave a suitcase sitting for WEEKS, but I like to get mine unpacked as soon as possible. Of course, you guys do way more traveling than us, so it's probably down to a science for you!

I like the vlog but I also like written answers too so maybe you could do both =) I also prefer written because the internet is so slow and takes forever to stream videos but I also know I'm a minority when it comes to that.

I'm not sure what to tell you to the comments. I know when you reply on a reply on your blog post, or if someone else replies to a comment, that you have to e-mail and notify them of that. I wonder why Blogger doesn't just install an easier comment system similar to Disqus but then it wouldn't be a third party system.

I love seeing you on video! More of those, please!

I'm torn about the comments, because I get your replies on my old email account (the Gmail one that is linked to my blogger account) and I can't find a way to transfer your replies to my new email address... which means I forget to read your emails because I don't check my inbox anymore. Also, I tend to prefer reading replies on posts instead of in a private email. But that's a question of taste, of course, and to each her own! :)

Also, I absolutely LOVE Disqus and I'm glad I said goodbye to the blogger commenting system for many, many reasons, but I understand that you're not interested/ready to change yet. :)

The Lady Okie said...

If you tell me an email address you would rather get my replies, on I can just send them there!
And I know tons of people love Disqus. I don't know why I'm dragging my feet about it, but I'm just not completely sold. I'll try to reply on the post more so other people can see :)

Also, glad you liked the vlog!

I do procrastinate, but missing deadlines and not recognizing it as a big deal is rude. No question. How you (whoever) want to spend your time is fine, but if you (whoever) say you're going to get me something or do something by a set date/time, it's disrespectful to not honor that. SO THERE.

also, you're responding to my comments AS I LISTEN TO THE LAST ANSWER OF THIS VLOG. how meta!

The Lady Okie said...

Yes, deadlines. And the funny thing is, I'm dealing with TEACHERS! You would think a teacher would understand the importance of deadlines. Example: I gave 13 people a q&a thing to do back in September, and I told them it was due Dec 31, so basically they had 3 months to get it finished. 5 people didn't turn it in on time, and I STILL have 2 people I haven't even heard from at all, even though I've sent them a reminder twice about it. ALL THE RAGE.

Love this! You're great with the vlog! Can't wait till your next Q&A!

P.S. No need to comment back on this comment....because, I agree, "What would you say?" :)

I like the vlog because I feel like I know someone better when I can put a voice with their face. So when you do post the response on the comment thread, do you reply by email as well? I didn't use to reply by email until I switched to WordPress and it started counting my replies in the comment total and for some reason, that drove me crazy! I hope people don't think that I never respond to comments!

The Lady Okie said...

I tooootally know what you mean about the replies counting in the comment total. That annoys me! Yes, I always respond via email (when I can find an email address), and then sometimes I copy/paste my reply into the comment thread on the blog. Usually only if someone has asked a question or my response is something I think other people would be interested in. I just don't think I need to add every single response on the blog, you know? personal opinion, of course :)

Glad you liked the vlog!

This was super fun to watch! Alex was like what are you watching? I told him not to worry about it haha. First thing- prayers go out to your man working in all the weather conditions! My dad is a general contractor and is the same way- rain or shine him and his workers are out working. Every morning I pass construction workers that are just getting to work as I leave for work at 6am and it reminds me to pray for all those that work out in the elements- Jordan is officially added to my list! :) that's really good you don't procrastinate! I wouldn't say I procrastinate to the last minute, but being too on top of things actually stresses me out more than procrastinating a little bit. In regards to your comment above- crazy that teachers wouldn't get things in on a deadline! I don't blame for your not putting up with it, that would get really annoying. Everytime someone pronounces disqus like "discuss" I'm surprised even though I think that's how you say it. For some reason, to me it looks like "discus" (like the track and field event) and I can't get that pronunciation out of my head.

I'm really late to sit down and listen to this video...but I've been wanting to, so I'm doing it now!!! :)

I loved your answers! Vlogging is such a fun thing to throw in every now and then! Keep it up!

I just have to tell you on the commenting thing...I haven't switched over to disqus and I don't plan on it, BUT in the last few weeks or so, I've noticed that I haven't always been getting the comment notification emails from Blogger. :( All that to say, you're not alone. Maybe we need to contact Blogger? I'm not too concerned yet, but we'll see if it continues or gets worse!
