Scenes from Salt Lake City

3.06.2015

So as you probably know by now, I was out all last week in Salt Lake City on business. I won't bore you with the details of my work, but let's just say it was a very long and tiring week. I had a few board meetings and met a lot of people I email with on a daily basis. Overall, everything went really well!

Between work hours, I did have time to sneak off and enjoy some of the sights and sounds of the city. We also had the opportunity to visit Temple Square and hear the Mormon Tabernacle Choir at the LDS Cathedral. It was amazing! Here are some scenes from my trip:
^^^ The view from the top! Flying into Utah.

^^^ Because I needed to have a board meeting on Saturday, I got to stay in the Presidential Suite so I could have the meeting in my room. I've never felt so fancy before!

^^^ I loved seeing the morning sunrise as we walked from the hotel to the convention center. It was just a few blocks, and we found the best breakfast place to stop at along the way for delicious breakfast burritos.

^^^ On Saturday our normal breakfast place was closed, but we found this fun bakery and it made me so happy! Seriously, how cute is this place?

^^^ It was really hard for me to pick just one and not say, "I'll have one of everything, please."

^^^ This is where I was most of the day during the week. Not the most glamorous, but at least my coworkers made it fun, and we all got to know each other a little better.

^^^ There was an ice rink right outside my hotel room! If I hadn't been so tired at the end of the day, I would have loved to try it out. I feel like it makes even February seem festive.

On Saturday night, I was able to see the most amazing concert: the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square. It was truly spectacular and a great end to the trip. Special guest Santino Fontana sang also. You may not recognize his name, but those of you Frozen fans would recognize his voice. He played Prince Hans!

Our flight back home was from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles then back to OKC. At first I was annoyed, but it ended up being a blessing because flights to Dallas were cancelled due to ice and snow. Here's the view of the ocean leaving LAX!

As much as I love seeing the mountains every day, after a long week, there's nothing quite like being home.

Have you ever been to Salt Lake City or seen the Mormon Choir perform?

I'm glad you had a good trip.

Pastries! You should have got one of each. I totally would have and plan on doing that when I come home.

I haven't been to Salt Lake and friend, you know I'd be scared to go to the Tabernacle. =) However, I have heard their choir and I know they sing really beautifully so I'm glad you got to hear them.

I've not been to/seen either, but you're pictures are making me want to go! I'll have to add it to the bucket list.

The Boulangerie is so adorable! I would have wanted one of everything as well. I mean, come on - traveling calories just don't count!

The Presidential suite? Fancy!!! I've never traveled anywhere out west past Texas but it looks like a fun city! I'm much more of a beach girl than mountains though!

Seriously, when I saw that cute place I freaked out. That is my kind of restaurant! It was so cute. I've been to SLC 3 (?) times now, I think, and it really is a great city! Very pedestrian friendly and very clean.

I've heard great things about Salt Lake City! I would love to go sometime, ideally for Alt Summit...but we'll see. I LOVE that you saw the Morman Tabernacle Choir! What a dream. Very cool.

I saw the Mormon Tabernacle Choir here in Cincinnati a few years ago, with Neil Armstrong narrating Copland's "Lincoln Portrait." It's such a cool work! Orchestra and choir, and then excerpts from some of Abraham Lincoln's best writings/addresses. Definitely a memorable experience.

Look at that suite! Such a pro. Were you wearing a fancy suit and high heels and drinking wine in there?
Also, I love pretty plane views. This one does not disappoint.
And If you like that bakery/boulangerie, you should visit France. These are everywhere. :)

Glad you had a great week and got to see temple square and hear some real live MoTab! Hearing them in person was even more amazing than I expected- I saw them both in the conference center and in the tabernacle in 2013! Have a great weekend, Amanda :)

I've been to SLC but never seen the Mormon tabernacle choir.... I would LOVE to hear them one day. Your hotel sounds like it was ideal- that giant suite (you so fancy!), breakfast burritos close by (ny second favorite food after French fries), and that cute little ice skating rink! Also very cool you got to put a face with names of people you email with! Glad you had a good trip and are back home safe!

Never been to SLC but our family goal is to visit all the capital cities. This summer we have plans to drive through SLC, so your post was super timely and helpful for our planning. We will definitely visit Eva's Bakery as it has our daughter's namesake. Thanks so much for sharing! - Julie

Salt Lake City is actually a really beautiful city. It's surrounded by mountains, first of all. Also, the streets are very clean and wide and pedestrian friendly. There are also a ton of really good restaurants and an awesome outdoor mall!

Such a beautiful city! I remember it being very clean. A friend who is very well traveled says that Utah is the most underrated state.

Oh and I hope that you only answered to Madam President for the entire week. ;-)
