Growing a Human: Week 24

4.28.2015

*This post was written while I was waiting for Jordan to come back with the chocolate milkshake I told him I wanted. I'm such a cliche.

I realize I haven't been posting weekly bump updates here on the blog. I am keeping my own pregnancy journal (which I will share more about in a later post), and so I don't feel the need to use this blog for record keeping. Plus, I only post 2-3 times a week, and I don't know how well I could keep up with a weekly baby post even if I wanted to.

All that said, I don't want to completely deprive any of you of the joy of seeing pictures of my growing stomach. I once was flat, and now I am round. I think that's in the Bible somewhere.
^^^I take my weekly pictures at home, but I've also been taking a picture every 4 weeks or so in the bathroom at my office and posting them on Facebook. I kid you not, these pictures get more likes and comments than anything else I do on there. I think it's because everyone finds it hilarious that I keep taking pictures in my office bathroom, but as all good phone photographers know, you gotta go where the good lighting is.

So, anyway. I'm rambling. Here's a rundown of some recent stats as of 24 weeks.

Gender: Girl!

Name: We have one, but we aren't telling until she's born. I always feel bad telling someone that when they ask what her name is, but I just like having this little secret with Jordan for now. However, since I love you guys so much, I'll give you a hint: it does not start with a Z. You're welcome.

Weight: I've gained a total of 16 pounds and am sitting at 152. At my appointment last week, I was up a whopping 10! Good grief. I don't feel like I weigh 10 pounds more. I told Jordan it was the fried peaches I had at the arts festival. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

Movement: Yes! Baby Bum is kicking away in there, and I'm so happy to finally be able to feel her moving. I started feeling definite movement (that for SURE wasn't gas or indigestion) around week 21/22. I'll be honest: before then I had been stressing a bit because I hadn't felt any hard core kicks. Jordan has felt her as well, and sometimes when I'm lying down and am really still, we can see my stomach jerk with a kick. It's the strangest feeling ever.

Clothes: I'm still rocking the rubber band trick with the few pairs of pants I haven't had to completely retire yet, but a friend loaned me a pair of black maternity pants for work, and I bought a pair of maternity capris from Old Navy. I've decided that maxi dresses and skirts will be my go-to clothes this summer. Before this I had never worn a maxi anything, but now I am IN LOVE and totally get the hype. They are so comfy! Plus I'm hoping they will serve double duty as maternity wear and also regular person wear once the belly is gone.

Symptoms: I assume you mean other than my insane pregnancy hormones that are makin' me crazy now?

Over the last few weeks I've noticed some slight morning sickness returning. It's just when I wake up, and it subsides as soon as I eat something, but it's just kind of annoying. My main problem currently is some indigestion issues and rib pain from everything being pushed up. When I'm sitting, sometimes my ribs start to hurt, and I have to sit up really straight or just get up and walk around for a bit. So far there have been no stretch marks that I can see.

Running: Still keeping a schedule of 3 days a week. The most I run at a time is 3 miles, and you would have thought I just ran a half marathon.

Nursery: Ha! I should probably start thinking about that, shouldn't I?

So that's what's up with Baby Bum and I these days!

To conclude, I recommend you watch this video:

Baby bum is getting so big! :) My sister is at the end of her pregnancy (week 39!) and has said that breathing and sitting are like a chore from the middle of the pregnancy forward. haha you're looking great though!

Precious! I didn't think I had any pregnancy cravings until after the fact when I realized, "Wow, I ate ice cream every single night for 9 months and I don't even like ice cream that much." Haha SUCH a cliche ;)

We always kept names a secret over here, too. The oldest ratted us out when my dad asked him what his baby brother's name was (we had two options at the time). We decided when we were pregnant with Leah to not say ANY baby names around our boys. Looking back, we probably could have planted some really fun names in their little heads! ;)

Telling us you're giving us a hint and then saying the baby's name does not start with a Z is *so* cruel! Well, at least now we have the blessed assurance you are not going to name her Zelda, Zelma, Zinnia, Zooey, or Zaharah. Great baby bump photos! Enjoyed the post.

That's so exciting! It's fun to see a thin person go through pregnancy, because it's such a big change in body shape. My friends who have had kids were both on the heavier side to begin with, and the one you couldn't tell at all!

How are things with the house? I'm pretty sure I remember you guys closing on it, right?

Awww...you've got such a cute little bump! And seriously, I cannot believe you didn't wear maxis before pregnancy. Hands down, best summer clothing on the planet! :)

I'm 23 weeks pregnant and actually glad to see you have rib pain as well. (Don't take that the wrong way!!) I wasn't sure if something was wrong with me or if it really was just "stuff" moving around inside me!!! Congrats on your girl- it's so fun to go through this journey with some of my favorite bloggers!!

Cute bump, lady! I agree, seeing the kicks is kind of weird. Totally cool, but weird too. Wait until she gets bigger and you can see body parts - like feet. So strange!

Emily used to get the hiccups a lot when I was pregnant with her, especially near the end. I always told my doctor that I was 100% positive that she was head down because she would get the hiccups and I could feel it on my bladder. That was not always so fun!

You look FANTASTIC!!!!!!!

Love the pics and update! Interested to hear more about the pregnancy journal...sounds neat! My brother and sister-in-law planned to keep their daughter's name a secret, but my parents were relentless and he eventually gave in. I think it is fun that you are keeping it between you two until she arrives :) Glad things are going well!!

Start telling people her name is Bada. As in Bada Bum! Funny? No? I couldn't decide, but decided to comment with it anyway. I wish we had kept Quinn's name a secret because everybody over the age of 60 thought I was saying "Gwen".

"I once was flat and now I'm round"- HAHAHA I think you're right- tooootally in the bible! I'm happy that you're feeling legit kicks and not just possible fart-possible kicks. That is so exciting! You look so cute! Also- the comment above me with Bada bum" is hilaaaarious! I like that you guys are keeping it a secret :)

You have to go where the lighting is, of course! Looking good. Maxi dresses are so comfortable. They are my uniform of the summer for sure!

Your bum(p) pictures are so cute!! Bathroom selfies are a classic, and mandatory when you're pregnant. Good thing you upgraded your old flip-phone to one with a good camera ;-)

Man I was so sure her name was going to be Zoraya now I have to start over (haha sorry, I had to!)
and yeah, you're going to continue getting likes on those pics, and they will continue to increase as the baby is born! :)

Mmmm chocolate milkshake! We recently found the best ice cream place and it's dangerously close to our house. I think about it all the time now and I was never a big ice cream eater before!

You're looking so great! Stay strong on the name secret! We've been getting a hard time from some extended family, but we're not budging. So impressed that you're keeping up with your running, that will definitely serve you well in the long haul! And yay for baby kicks… the strangest but coolest feeling ever!

I think it's cool that you guys are keeping her name a secret! I feel like these days everyone wants to know EVERYTHING so it's nice to have at least one thing to yourselves :) I always thought it would be fun to keep the gender a surprise until the very end though that sounds so extreme now haha.
I hope the maxi can keep you cool this summer! My niece was born last September and my sister-in-law wore a lot of maxi stuff!
Aww I love that video!

Those little knitted shoes are super duper cute!!! Did you make them?

I was certain her name was going to be Zelda. Dang it. Back to the guessing game. :)

I love your face on the bumpdates.
Great to see how everything's going and how you're feeling. Growing a human is fascinating business, even when it's not your own. :)

Even though I don't really miss being pregnant, this kind of made me miss being pregnant. The worst was when the morning sickness would randomly return. It hit me again with a vengeance around month 8. But that rib pain! Oh man, I don't miss that. It was awful.

I also took all my weekly pictures in a bathroom. Yours look so much better, though. I couldn't be bothered to do my hair or look decent through most of my pregnancy.

Rach said...

Oh man! You're not naming her Zara?! I'm so disappointed! ;) I totally understand keeping the name a secret until she's born! I look forward to hearing it after she arrives! :)

Sorry about the morning sickness returning. Hopefully that will ease up soon!
