Pin to Present: Mounted Basket Storage

I really don't consider myself that great of a decorator, and I'm definitely not one of those people who can find an old table on Craigslist and refinish it and make it look distressed and cool. I also usually don't end up doing any of the DYI projects I see on Pinterest, so I am really excited to share this easy bathroom storage hack! (Linking up with Anne for Pin to Present.)

Neither of the bathrooms in our house had any kind of cabinet over the toilet. I don't know if that's normal for bathrooms or not when you buy a house, but it caught me off guard. For one thing, the wall looked empty. For another, I didn't have any kind of storage for towels or toilet paper or anything that might need storage except for under the sink.

We were planning on buying and mounting a regular wooden cabinet from somewhere like Lowe's or Home Dept, but depending on what type of cabinet you get, we were looking at $100 easy. Then I saw this fun basket storage idea on Pinterest and instantly knew I wanted to do that in my bathroom.

I've been looking for the right basket for a while now, and I felt like Goldilocks or something. This basket was too big, this basket was too small... I liked the wire baskets in the original pin but was having terrible luck finding anything like that. I even Googled "wire basket" and didn't come up with anything.

Then I was wandering around Hobby Lobby, as one does, and found the perfect baskets AND they were 50% off! At only $10 each, I snatched them up. I also saw this bathroom sign (below) that was 50% off and grabbed it.
For a total of $27, I have this awesome setup on the bathroom wall! It's functional and cheap and (I think) looks fun compared to a regular over-the-toilet mounted cabinet. Granted, it doesn't hold as much stuff, but it will stay clean and won't become just another place to toss random items.

Yay! Shoutout to Jordan, who helped me hang the baskets. And to my mom (because I can't write a blog post and not mention her) who affirmed my design placement and helped me figure out how high to hang them.
Now I just have to figure out what to do in the master bathroom, because we don't have anything over the toilet there either. Maybe something like this?

What do you think? Have you ever considered using baskets for wall storage like this?
What should I do over the toilet in the other bathroom?

I've seen the same idea on Pinterest and thought it was fab as well! You've done great with it - looks fantastic!

I like it! I have not one clue about the master. I think you'd have to be careful of the depth of the shelves you choose if you go the route of the pin you linked.
Decorating is fun!

Super cute!!! I think it's perfect for a guest bathroom, because it really doesn't need to hold much in the way of toiletries and spares, and it's very attractive. I've been loving wicker baskets lately, but haven't actually purchased any, because I know the shoeboxes our toiletries live in function just fine, even if they are kind of ugly.

I've pinned so many variations of this, but never done it. And I'm a little too excited that a) you did it and b) it looks so good!!!! Time to actually start recreating some of my pins...

We don't have much bathroom storage either so I love this idea and might have to attempt it myself! Looks great Mama!!

This came out great! I really like it. Our spare bathroom has a huge, floor to ceiling closet that provides us with ample storage, but I am jealous of your baskets. Unfortunately, the previous owner put ugly mirrored tiles above the toilet, and I'm afraid to take them down and open a can of worms there.

For our master bathroom, we have a cabinet above the toilet. I'm leaving it there. Mostly because it was already there, partly because I have tons of junk that needs to be hidden, and secretly because I would never be able to keep open shelving so nice and neat.

It looks great! The floating shelves are a good idea for the master - it would give you a bit more space and look really nice.

LOVE this! definitely using this idea when we move!!!
i think the shelves would look cool & give you a lot of space in the master bath! we have an étagère for our bathroom now & it works really well! this is similar to the one we got and pretty inexpensive! (http://www.target.com/p/threshold-over-toilet-space-saver-etagere-metal/-/A-14762732#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=etagere) they also sell ones with more room for around $90.

This is an awesome idea! And I love the wooden baskets you chose. I really need some kind of storage like this in my bathroom, too. I can't possibly fit anything else under the sink!

Pinterest to the rescue! My love for Pinterest is far greater than it should be, but it is often very helpful!

It looks great! I've seen the basket idea on Pinterest too and always wondered if it would work in our bathroom or not because we definitely need the storage. Our bathroom is SO tiny but I just might have to be on the lookout for baskets now!

It looks so great! And that's such a great deal on baskets! I heart Hobby Lobby!

I tried a DIY one time and it turned out cute but it was so much work. I don't know if I'll ever do one again.

Those baskets are darling though. And I love the shelf idea. Makes it look super classy. Also, that little picture is perfect. Now I want one. :)

ok! Copying you! We don't have any cabinets over our toilets either... and didn't want to pay to buy them! This is genius! I hope you don't mind :)

It looks better than the Pinterest version! Those baskets are beautiful.
I also really like the shelves over the toilet that you linked at the end, go for it!

That is a cute idea. I used floating shelves above mine. It does look empty without something there.

Such a great little project and what a way to potentially save hundreds of dollars - by not buying expensive wooden cabinets! Go you!!!!! :) I love the way it turned out.

You did a great job! I love the idea.
I also love the Goldilocks reference.

I love it!! I'm always frustrated by the same-old boring wall-mounted cabinet options out there for small bathrooms in need of storage (because I have had a lot of small bathrooms in need of storage, ha), so this is such a refreshing change up. And I love how you can make the look totally different by choosing a different style of basket to suit your bathroom decor. Thanks for linking up!

I like this idea. I never thought about that but it would be a lot cheaper than those things you put over your toilets with the shelves.

How did people live before Pinterest???

This is fabulous! Pinterest for the win! I definitely like your other idea for the other bathroom. Shelves would look great! I've even seen some of those DIY wood shelves that would probably be easy and affordable?!
