The Chair Pictures: A Video of Months 1-12

8.10.2016

Miss R is ONE YEAR OLD today! Oh, what a blessing she is. I pretty much summed up all my thoughts about being this girl's mama in this post, so I won't try to write anything else because I am over here feeling ALL THE EMOTIONS.

A friend on Instagram said this is my "happy to not be in labor day," and ain't that the truth. Amen. I reread R's birth story the other day just for fun (ha!), and, just, ouch.

Last week I was trying to put some thoughts together about my first year of motherhood, and I jokingly said to a coworker, "It was the best of times; it was the worst of times." We laughed about it, and then later I was like, "Actually it was the best of times and the worst of times." So I went and looked up the whole first paragraph of A Tale of Two Cities, and what do you know. Charles Dickens was talking about more than just life in London during the French Revolution. He was talking about motherhood. Symbolism, baby. No, seriously, read this:

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities (<--- cough *screaming baby* cough) insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

I mean isn't that perfect?

As you know by now, I've taken a picture of R in her gray elephant chair every month for her monthly updates, and at the same time I took a short video. I've put them all together for you, so please enjoy this 30-second montage of my baby girl from one to twelve! If you can't see it below, click here.

Happy birthday, my little love! Month Twelve recap (the last one!) will be coming soon, along with a recap of her first birthday party. Once I stop crying.

who knew charles dickens knew so much about motherhood? haha. i've never read the whole beginning (or that book at all, obviously) so thanks for sharing.
oh and i don't want to come across nit picky at all but i hate when something happens and people don't tell me, so... the first photo made your first few lines of font all wonky.
Again, happy birthday to R!

I love your video! So true about Charles Dickens and having a "happy to not be in labor" day... I always spend my kids' birthdays crying over how much I love them, then remembering their birth story events and rejoicing that that only happens once :) Happy birthday to your sweet girl!

Happy HAPPY Birthday Baby R!! I've enjoyed watching your first year, as it helps give me insight and things to look forward to, seeing as how my little girl is half a year younger. Enjoy your day Little One and let everyone love on you. :)
