Friday Introductions

3.10.2017

*This photo was taken over the summer, FYI. I don't just all of the sudden not look pregnant anymore.

Friday Introductions is a popular hashtag on Instagram where people introduce themselves to all their new followers and find other people to follow. Seeing as how my follower count stays steady in a straight line, I have never felt the need to re-introduce myself to people who already know me. But I probably (hopefully? maybe?) have a few new followers/lurkers on The Lady Okie Blog, so I thought I’d do a Friday introduction on here and share a few things about me that you might not know!

-I am 30.5 years old, and I’ve been married to Jordan for almost 6 years (this May!). I am originally from a Chicago suburb, but I’ve lived in Oklahoma since the fall of 2008. I moved here after college for a job and knew absolutely no one. I said I’d maybe stay here a year, but then I made friends and met Jordan and the rest, as they say, is history.

-I am a professional editor, and my friends are scared to text and email me because they think I’m judging their grammar. Which I’m not. Usually.

-I have never dyed my hair. I like my natural color and natural highlights and have never felt the need or desire to mess with changing colors.

-I look best when I wear purples, greens, and blues. These colors bring out my eyes and fit my skin tone. I do not look good wearing oranges, yellows, pinks, and reds. This is a scientific fact, and as such I don’t have any of these colors in my closet and you will rarely slash never see me wearing them.

-I don’t drink coffee. Like, ever. I have never liked it, and I don’t feel the need to make it an acquired taste by dumping in a ton of cream and sugar and then backing off over time until I’m drinking it black. My parents (I love you, Mom and Dad!) are ZOMBIES without their morning coffee. I ask you: why should I make myself incapable of functioning properly without coffee if I have lived 30 years and seem to be doing okay for myself?

-I went skydiving in 2010 with my friend Hannah, and it is my one claim to adventure fame. I really don’t do a lot of stuff that counts as adventurous, but since skydiving is not your average activity, I like having something to tell people I’ve done that not everyone has.

-I learned to play the violin in the fourth grade, and I still play twice a week for our church band.

-I am 5’7¾”, which means I’m a quarter-inch taller than Jordan, who is 5’7½.” He loves it when I remind him that I’m taller.*

*He doesn’t love it.

-The fact that I didn’t get an epidural while giving birth to R has nothing to do with the fact that I’m hard core about natural childbirth (I’m not) and everything to do with the fact that I said no initially when I was being admitted to the hospital and then totally forgot to ask about it later. I'm not exactly sure what happened with that, honestly.

-I have run 10 half marathons and 2 full marathons and a handful of other races of various lengths. I love running and hope to continue it for a good long while, and I would like to train for another full marathon at some point in the future.

So those are just a few things about me… Tell me something about you!

How tall are you? Have you ever been skydiving?

I only very recently started highlighting my hair because the greys are getting out of control and it is cheaper than coloring all over. Whatever the highlights don't get I usually just pull out. Surely I'll be bald soon, but I won't have grey hair!

I didn't know that you're an editor, that's what I do also! I've never dyed my hair either, I like my natural color and dying/highlighting it seems like too much upkeep for me. I'll do it one day when I have gray hair, but hopefully that'll be years away.

I don't drink coffee either, my husband drinks enough for the both of us haha.

i look best wearing those colors as well. i also look good wearing white, which is odd because i am so pale.

you are ¾ of an inch taller than i am! jared is a couple inches taller than i am. (unless i wear heels. then we are even steven.)

i have never been skydiving, and it's safe to say i never will. i barely made it through our two-hour flights to vegas and back when we eloped. haha!

The fact that you're so nonchalant about forgetting to ask for the epidural cracks me up. What a badass!

This is so fun! I loved learning more about you. I am 5.6! And no, I have never been skydiving... I have no desire too either ;)

ahhhh *to

DON'T JUDGE ME

Torrie said...

I actually thought you seemed taller than that from your pictures...but you're still a good deal taller than me! I'm only 5'5" :)

Sometimes, I wish I was a professional editor. Then I could actually judge people's grammar and get paid for it. I used to do proofreading/copy editing for the credit union my husband used to work for, and it was fun, but also a bit depressing sometimes.

I will never go skydiving. Ever. I'm not afraid of heights, per se, but I also have no desire to jump from them.

I'm about 5'4 and a half. I definitely got my dad's family genes when it comes to height, my mom and sister are both about 5'7" and my mom's brothers (and my grandpa before he passed away) are over six feet!

Natalie said...

I'm 4'10.5" and there is no way I'd go skydiving. I don't even like flying in a plane.

Courtney said...

We're almost the same height! I clock in right at 5 7.

Are you planning to get an epidural this next time? Or just going to see how it goes?

After two completely med free births...I'm totally toying with the idea of trying something new (read: DRUGS) :p

I do admit that whenever I end a sentence in a preposition or "write like I talk" I wonder if it will cause you to wag your finger sternly at the keyboard. I don't think I've ever seen anybody actually wag their finger, but you never know.

I am 5'8" and I have never been skydiving. If someone offered to pay me to skydive, I would do it. Bungee jumping would be a whole different story though...nope!

Carolann Chambers said...

I'm 5'1" and I never realize how much taller people are than me until I see pictures of us together. I guess I think I'm taller than I actually am? I have never been skydiving. I don't know if I could do it. Nick is super adventurous. He loves scuba diving and wants me to go skydiving, too. I like to be on the ground!

Maria said...

As you recently found out, I'm a measly 4'11". For this reason, I find hugs really really awkward unless they are with a family member or someone less than 5'3".

I've never dyed my hair either! My stylist was shocked, but admires the fact that I've never given into highlights or other trends.

Callie said...

I love this! I have been skydiving too - Derek forces my hand by almost going with my sister, and I wasn't about to let him have a skydiving buddy that wasn't me! My first natural birth was a total accident too, haha! Do you think you'll get the epidural this time?

Sara Oss said...

I'm 5'10, but because my husband is 6'5 people who spend time with both of us often think I'm shorter than I am. I have a huge sweet tooth (especially for gummy candy) but I can't stand the combination of sweet + alcohol. Not only do I not like fun drinks like margaritas and mojitos, but it extends to things like rum cake and desserts with liqueur. I'll just have a beer and peach rings, thanks.

Nadine said...

I love your hair color, certainly no need to do anything to it indeed!!! I find myself gravitating towards jewel toned colors so as not to wash out my skin tone. How did you not think to ask about an epidural??? It was the only thing on my mind after several hours of intense pain!!!

Mimsie said...

Well, I've followed your blog for many years, and never realized you were tall-ish, nor that you play the violin regularly! Very impressive.

Rachel said...

I'm 5'5" and Angel's 5'6", which means on occasion I might look taller due to heels. We're basically the tiny people of our families--he and I are shorter than everyone in my family except my mom and the 10 year old.

I will never ever skydive but I'm somewhat adventurous...just not "falling" adventurous. Not at all.

I obviously color my hair but I've never colored it any 'normal' or 'natural' sort of color like blonde, brown, or black. I love my natural haircolor but I also love blue and purple and pink and teal...so those are the only colors I would ever add.

Wow you've been in so many races! I had no idea! That's so awesome! I've never been skydiving and I don't think I could ever do it -- too scary for me! I did go cliff-jumping when we were in Bermuda a few years ago and that was as adventurous as I think I will get!

I think the Friday Introductions are fun even for people that I have followed for YEARS!!! There is ALWAYS something that never comes up in regular posts and conversations. Like your height and the fact that you're a smidge taller than Jordan. Apparently "smidge" is not a word. I'm leaving it though. "Smidgen" makes me feel way to southern. I'm 5'7 1/4" tall and I always want " to = feet and ' to = inches.

You always strike me as the super adventurous type!!! You just seem like you're up for ANYTHING!

I read a book about a celloist once. I have noooo idea what the title of the book was, but I've always wanted to be one since then. Only, I'm terrified of actually performing and have never even tried to find a teacher or anything. Weird? I think so. Way to stick with the violin AND play for your church too!!!

I drink coffee for sheer enjoyment. All these people that talk about what it "does" for them HAVE to be telling the truth, but I have nooooo idea what they're talking about.

I want to hear more about your initial move to OK! Did you live on your own? What was it like? How long did it take you to settle in? How did you meet that group of friends and everything?

I have never been skydiving and have NO desire to go. I'm not afraid of heights, I just don't feel a calling to skydive. Lol. My claim to adventurous fame was living in India for a month- it's my *fun fact* that I usually share when people are talking about that kind of adventurous stuff, lol.
My mom didn't get an epidural with me because she asked for it during a shift change in the hospital and no one did it and by the time she was screaming for it it was too late. Then when she had my little brother she just figured she birthed me naturally so she'd do it again with him. Lol

Betsy said...

I'm 5'10.5" and Jon is 6"... when he stands up straight. Haha! I used to be self-conscious about being taller than him (than he? GRAMMAR ME PLEASE!) when I wore heels but it didn't bother him so eventually it stopped bothering me.

I do like coffee and I don't think a snob about it (I can tell when I'm drinking great coffee and I can tel when I'm drinking awful coffee but I can't tell one of the vast middle from the other) but I do NOT understand the point of drinking coffee that's mostly sugar and milk/cream/non-dairy whatever. Just... why?

Beka @ Sunshine to the Square Inch said...

I love skydiving! I wish I could go all the time. I also love coffee and tracked how many cups I drank in February and I am not ashamed to say I had 60 cups! I make a pot every morning. =)

I'm 5'2" ... and a 1/2, haha! I've never been skydiving and I don't drink coffee either. Sometimes I wish I drank other things other then water but I just never do

Kayla MKOY said...

I tried to go back to my normal hair color and got so bored with it after like 6 weeks, so I went back to blonde, and like it that way! I had no idea Jordan was 5'7"! For some reason I assumed you were both a little taller :) Caleb is 5'8" and I am still so short next to him at 5'2"!

Rach said...

I totally forgot that you never ended up getting an epidural with R. Do you think you'll do one this time? Have you even thought about it?

I've never permanently dyed my hair. Though it has been briefly (wash out) both blue and red (though at different times) while I was in college.

And we're right around the same height! I'm 5'8. :)
