Hemp Pro 70: Plant-Based Protein Powder // Review & Giveaway

9.07.2014

Here's the deal: as a runner, I really like the idea of healthy powders, shakes, and foods. The problem is, they're usually so expensive, and I never know what I'll actually like. I don't want to waste money on something I won't end up using because it tastes disgusting. Plus, let's face it. I'm lazy and cheap.

That's why I was really excited to have the chance to review the new chocolate and vanilla flavors of Hemp Pro 70 from Manitoba Harvest. These powders are plant-based, so they're vegan friendly and only contain four ingredients (hemp protein concentrate, organic coconut sugar, organic flavor, natural plant extracts).

Hardly anything these days has only four ingredients! That's madness.
After a run, I whipped up a tasty chocolate drink (milk + banana slices + chocolate protein powder), and I'm seriously telling you: this stuff is smooth. Like, not grainy at all. At allll. And it has a ton of protein: 14 grams per serving! Boom.

Hemp Pro 70 is the only water-soluble hemp protein power on the market currently, which I guess is lab talk for saying you don't need a blender to mix it. I did use a blender because of the bananas, but you really wouldn't need one if you're just mixing the powder with liquid. And it really tasted pretty good! I'd drink it again, is basically what I'm saying.

  1. I'd choose vanilla for versatility's sake.

  2. Interesting only 4 ingredients! We are on such a strict diet that we are only able to have one kind of powder which is grass fed, etc. I wonder if this one would work on our eating plan :)

  3. Definitely chocolate! I imagine that would be great with banana or peanut butter.

  5. I would pick chocolate, because there is no other option! Haha! I'm always worried about these types of protein mixes as well. Spending money on something I may not like is never a fun prospect. Also, I feel like I should be eating "real food" instead of smoothies or shakes, but lately I'm in a rut with what I'm actually eating. And by rut, I mean I'm just eating horribly.

  6. I'd have to go with Vanilla. I don't like chocolate shakes for some reason! Getting in enough protein has been an ongoing project for the last few months so this would be awesome to win.

  7. I'd love to try the chocolate flavor! My favorite smoothie is chocolate protein powder, almond milk, frozen cherries, and bananas. Like a chocolate-covered cherry!

  8. I've never heard of this but I think it would be a good option for vegans / vegetarians who run and workout a lot. I know protein isn't always easy for them to get. I would enter this giveaway but you know ... I'm packing for Asia and I gotta keep room for coffee and black beans =)

    1. Chocolate! I started running this summer actually and have found myself rather addicted, I even get up at 5:10 to start my runs early enough to still get kids to school:) and a protein drink after would be great!

  12. Chocolate. No, vanilla. Wait, chocolate. Ugh, vanilla?

Can I have some more time to think about this?

  13. Chocolate for sure! Have you ever ever talked more about the health powders you use? When we started P90X3 we did a month of Shakeology, which was really good and we liked it, but it's crazy expensive. So we aren't using it any more. I would love to learn more about what other might be using, because I have no idea.
