Ask Anything Answers: Part 5

5.21.2015

1. What's your favorite TV show?
Friends is my all-time favorite. However, I also love Castle, My Boys, Alias, and Parenthood.

The only show I watch semi-regularly that is currently on the air is The Middle. I watch Downtown Abbey, but I'm still on the season from last year.

2. What's your best tip for bloggers?

Have fun. I know that sounds too easy, but seriously. Unless you're making a ton of money off your blog and it's your job, your blog is a hobby! It's like exercising or scrapbooking or cooking or anything else you like to do. If you don't like it, don't do it! So make sure you're having fun with your blog and blogging about things that YOU want to blog about. If you start caring too much about what other people think, that's the best way to stop having fun and the fastest way to kill your blog.

3. What do you and Jordan do for fun?

I'll be honest. This question caused me some anxiety.

Truthfully, Jordan and I aren't very exciting. We don't travel all that much, and we don't work out together or cook together much anymore (we did that while we were dating, and then it kind of died). So I was sitting here having a panic attack like DO WE EVEN HAVE FUN TOGETHER?

We like playing Skip-Bo. If you don't know what that is, you need to rethink some stuff. We go for frozen yogurt dates or out for ice cream occasionally. As I mentioned in my anniversary recap post, lately we've been rewatching Star Wars so we can be ready for the new movie coming out this winter. When Jordan watched the trailer, he had tears in his eyes. I'm not joking.

We always read at night before we go to sleep, and even though technically I guess we're not really interacting, I like doing that with him.

When we're on road trips to Texas, we play 20 questions sometimes. Jordan is very good. He stumps me almost every time, which is saying something about his items and my lack of ability to ask good questions.

So, basically we're not very fun? I guess? I don't know. What do YOU do for fun?

4. What is the absolute best trip you have ever taken?

Okay, I obviously can't choose best trip ever, because I've been on so many great ones. But three trips immediately stood out to me when I thought of this question:

1. Family trip to Hawaii in 2002 (couldn't find any pictures)
2. Trip to Greece during January term, senior year in college 2008

3. Mission trip to Nicaragua in 2014. We went with a group from our church, including Jordan's parents.
Read more about our trip to Nicaragua!

5. What are your greatest pet peeves?

These are the first ones that came to mind:
-People who say they're going to come to something and then don't come
-People who don't use turn signals
-People who say they don't like a food item even though they've never tried it
-People who misuse the word "literally"
-People who slow down to look at an accident that is on the OTHER SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, thus causing an unnecessary traffic jam and making me late to work.*

*This is a hypothetical scenario that didn't just happen to me last week.

6. What are your guilty pleasures?

-Hershey's chocolate. I'm not a huge fan of candy bars, but I'm a sucker for the plain chocolate.

-One Tree Hill. This show is so stupid. I hate myself when I watch it, but it's a good fluffy show to watch while I'm scrapbooking.

-Sometimes I feeling like blogging is a guilty pleasure because I probably could be doing something more productive with my time.

-Anything on this list.

That's all for now!

The food one drives me crazy too! I used to think I hated beets then I tried them when I moved and am a beet eater now!

"Do we even have fun together?" made me laugh. I know the feeling. In the USA, we biked together a lot in the summer, went out to swing dancing, went out to our favorite restaurants, had bonfires in our backyard, hung out at the park and played the XBox kinect together. Here--we have become so pathetic at doing stuff together for fun. Basically, we watch movies or tv shows together on the laptop screen. Our jobs are fun and all of the random social events that our friends invite us to are fun, but it seems like going on a 'date' is just too tiring when, wherever we go, it requires a long walk in the hot sun or a ride on crowded public transportation...staying home if we don't have a good reason to go out is easier. I've temporarily turned into a homebody!

Hershey's Chocolate Bars/Kisses are my favorite. There is nothing better.

Also, we taught our boys to play Skip-Bo over Christmas break, and they love it. Next up is Phase 10. If you haven't tried it, you should. It is possible that one of you may throw cards because you are frustrated (I may or may not have had that happen).

In addition to hating foods they haven't tried, I'd say hating foods they haven't tried since childhood. Because unless I'm the exception, your tastes change so much as an adult! I used to hate fish - now I eat it all the time. I've even made peace with asparagus.

Telling people what you do is hard, because a lot of the small, content activities don't sound like much when you describe them. But sitting at home reading or playing video games makes me feel a lot happier than going out every night, so I would definitely count it as "fun"!

I would love for you to do a post on your trip to Greece. You know, so I can live vicariously and all that... I also love One Tree Hill. Sorry I'm not sorry.

The world literally makes me cringe every time I hear/read it. NO ONE USES IT CORRECTLY! I've never watched One Tree Hill, but I love a good fluffy show for when I'm folding laundry, doing something crafty or just need to veg out-- lately I've been caught flipping on The Secret Life of the American Teenager all too often. Judge away ;)

Skip Bo for the win! What a great game!!! I love all your travel places you chose - so fun!

And, your pet peeves - ha, yes! ;) Especially #1. Can I add people who don't RSVP?

Strider and I have a really hard time coming up with fun together activities too....you should check out Dutch Blitz, it's a PA Dutch game that's super fast-paced and fun.
Also, thanks again for your contribution to my household hints post today - it's live with a link back here to you! http://asongforthebirds.blogspot.com/2015/05/random-household-tips-advice.html

I've actually had someone ask me to do a post on my Greece trip! I might just have to dig out my pictures and put one together. It's the only place in Europe I've ever been, but if that's the only place I go, I will feel satisfied!

The Lady Okie said...

Awesome! Thanks for letting me know.
I've heard of Dutch Blitz... need to check it out! We really like games.

The Lady Okie said...

Agreed. I can't really handle people who are picky eaters anyway, but if you haven't even TRIED something and are saying you don't like it? Come on. Try it once, and then if you still don't like it, I will accept it. Like me with olives. I have tried them multiple times and still think they are the nastiest things ever.

The Lady Okie said...

We love Phase 10! Except I do have a problem with the phases. Only one of them even uses the colors, which I think is stupid. If they had asked me, I would have varied the phases a bit more so they were more interesting.

The Lady Okie said...

YES! Why don't people RSVP?! Except honestly, I would take not RSVPing over saying you'll come and then not coming.

Chocolate in general is a good idea!! I feel like i don't anything fun either when people ask. Totally puts you on the spot!

I feel like your answer to what you & Jordan do for fun is so universal. "Uh, we live life?" Hubby and I like to watch Netflix together in the evenings after the kiddo's bedtime. We also like to try new restaurants. But life is so busy and hectic, that just getting to share our time together- no matter what it is - feels like fun!

We've been to Greece too. That was amazing. For fun, we play Yahtzee, watch tv, go out to restaurants, movies, museums, and concerts. When playing Yahtzee, we usually listen to jimmy buffet. We travel a lot together too. This year will be Antigua, Bahamas, Alaska, and Paris. If you go the arts festival this weekend, come say hi. That's where I live. Estherdavison@gmail.com

I'm in the midst of watching Friends right now! I've seen lots of episodes over the years, but never all of them in order (thank you Netflix). I am obsessed right now!

Greece is on our list! I'm so excited to make it there someday!

One of my girlfriends here was telling me that she has started watching One Tree Hill and loves it. I tried watching part of the first episode, but just didn't get into it. She said it gets a lot better. So maybe after I finish with friends I'll try One Tree Hill. :)

I had never heard of Skip-Bo, I just had to google it. However, when I read that you liked to play Skip-Bo for fun, I totally confused it with Skip-It. You know, the thing from the 90's that you spin on your ankle and jump over? For a minute, I totally thought that's what you and Jordan did for fun.

Becky said...

Friends is my all time favorite show too. I just re-watched the entire series on Netflix before bed each night and now I just want to do it again. Never gets old. I used to play skip-bp but it's been awhile now! I'm trying to think of what Peter and I do…drink wine? watch soccer? hiking? Haha I think everyone just has different definitions of fun! The Star Wars trailer came out right before I went to visit Peter in Chicago and the whole weekend he wouldn't shut up about it haha. He is SOOO excited. He made me watch them once but I didn't really pay attention. I told him if I have to watch them again I need a bottle of wine for each movie :P I also totally thought it was Hans Solo too!

Laura said...

Oh, Downton! Love it. And I semi-binged watched Parenthood this semester. I still need to watch the last season when it comes on Netflix. I kinda skipped through most of season 5 because the divorce thing I just can't handle. We walk the dogs for fun and go to the park with them. I guess that now includes the baby. We hang out in the neighborhood pool too. We like the zoo and museums, even before the baby. i feel like our list of 'fun' is constantly evolving. :)

Friends will never get old. I am not on Instagram, but a fellow blogger recently shared this fun Instagram account. I think all Friends fan should be aware of its existence: https://instagram.com/friends.videos

Loved the questions, loved the answers. :)

FRIENDS is absolutely the best TV show!!! I can quote pretty much every episode. And I think the mark of a good relationship is that you can have fun doing anything and nothing together! Also Skip Bo is great--I play it on my phone because, sadly, I have no one to play it with in real life BUT I really do love it :)

Unknown said...

Alias is my favorite show of all time. Ben and I don't usually have the same taste in tv shows, but we both love that one. Maybe watching it over again is something fun we can do together because I can't actually think of many specific things either. We do like to go to the bookstore on Friday nights which actually sounds extremely lame when I type it out. Ha!

Skip bo and boring married couples for the win.

That show is amazing!!!!!

Oh my gosh, I hate those people on the highway who cause traffic jams for no other reason than to get a glimpse of a dumb fender bender!

I love yor advice about blogging. ALWAYS have fun with it! Of course I don't want to be inconsistent and blog super randomly, I think it's also okay to not post every now and again. If I have nothing to write about? I just take the day off :)

Sarah @ Sometimes Photojenik said...

Man these posts are just so fun to read! Thank you for your blogging advice. Lately I've been feeling guilty for not posting as much and then I read your advice and I'm like that's what it's all about. I have a life and life is busy and I'm going to force myself to pump out some crap post so that I maintain readership. Amen sister, amen. I COULDN'T agree with you more on your first listed pet peeve- flakiness and flaky people drive me bonkers and push me past my limits of forgiveness (not really but kind of....). That's kind of funny that the question about what you and Jordan do for fun together caused you anxiety... it was probably asked by someone who isn't married yet :p Alex and I love to watch funny Youtube videos together, play tennis (that's how we met), and sometimes we play cards. We probably spend too much time watching shows but I think snuggling on the couch counts as a fun thing! Also, I want to go to Greece. NOW.

Skip bo is a blaaaaaast! Mark and I also love playing Munchkin together...it's a card game as well!

Hahaha "Do we even have fun together?" That would've been my response too! We are so boring, but we love it that way.

One Tree Hill is a guilty pleasure for me too. It was filmed about 2 hours away from where I went to college, and a lot of people from school were able to get on the show as extras. I never watched it then or cared about it, but I started to about a year after I moved away. And I'm definitely NOT thinking about rewatching it...

Allie @ Everyday Adventures said...

We like to play board games (we used to play Skipbo alllllll the time, but it hasn't been in heavy rotation lately). We also like to watch reality show competitions and make them into personal competitions between the two of us by each chosing a team or a contestant. We do read before bed, but that's a recent development on his part. Ummm … I dunno, maybe we're not much fun either?

Kristen @ See You In A Porridge said...

i literally don't know what we do for fun either.
jk. i hate when people use the word literally incorrectly as well, though i really don't think KC and I are very 'fun' either. But I dig it.

Laura Darling said...

We play a lot of monopoloy, haha! I've always wanted to go to Greece! It's on my bucket list!

Someone asked me the other day what P and our hobbies were, and I felt panic :) I was like, umm eating and drinking, I don't know. I feel like I can never come up with a good answer for that sort of question. We 100% have a lot of the same pet peeves, omg the trying food thing and rubber-necking are at the top of my list.
