5 Things I'm Obsessed With

So.... I got a little serious on you guys in my last post.

Honestly? I almost didn't publish it. I got embarrassed, feeling like maybe I was just being dramatic, but decided surely someone would be able to relate. Then I read comment after comment of sharing fears and got all weepy, per usual these days. Thank you so much to everyone who commented, emailed, and texted. Such encouragement and community!

I do feel the need to add that lest you think I spend my time curled up in a ball on the floor, don't worry. I just like to, as my mom said, "Explore my honest feelings." Apparently on this blog for the entire internet to read. Whatevs. But we are very excited to meet Baby Bum in just about a month from now! I feel very thankful that this pregnancy has gone so well. The countdown is on. I am 35 weeks TODAY, people!

Now on to something a little less intense and a little more fun.

Today I'm linking up with Kiki for an introduction post! I'm stealing an idea I saw on Erin's blog a few weeks ago that I thought was fun to share with you some things I'm obsessed with. Hopefully this will give you a good idea of exactly what kind of person I am. Or, at least what kind of person my closest family members think I am.

I polled seven people--Jordan, my parents, my three siblings, and my sister-in-law--and asked them to name the first 5 things that came to mind when I asked them what I am obsessed with. The answers were so much fun, and almost everyone said something different! Apparently I'm obsessed with a lot of things, all of which I completely agree with.

So, hi there.
I'm Amanda, also known as the Lady Okie.
I live in Oklahoma City, just turned 29, married 4 years, pregnant with my first baby, editor by day and blogger by night, and I'm obsessed with...

Jordan said...
1. Blogging
2. Doing everything immediately (let's just say I do not procrastinate)
3. Garage Facebook Group (I joined a garage sale Facebook group about a month ago and have been annoying him every day by showing him stuff I see on there that I think we should buy)
4. Fruit (ALL THE FRUIT)
5. Doing stuff I see on blogs (His example was, and I quote, "that natural cleaning crap." Basically all my statements start with, "So I was reading this blog..." Cue eye roll.)

My mom said...
1. Blogging
2. Running
3. Budgeting
4. Bugs (long story; this is a new obsession)
5. Cleaning (also a new obsession; also a long story)

My dad said...
1. People saying literally (seriously, stop saying literally unless you literally did it)
2. Snakes (as in, I am obsessed with the idea that I will see one and become hysterical and die)
3. Grammar (blame it on the day job)
4. Landfills (as in, I'm slightly terrified the earth will fill with garbage and we'll end up like Wall-e)
5. People not doing what they say (this is truly one of my greatest pet peeves)

My brother said...
1. Crunchy peanut butter (let's just say I don't trust people who eat creamy peanut butter)
2. Bryer's mint chocolate chip ice cream (I once ate an entire half gallon by myself in 2 days)
3. Running
4. Family
5. Loving people

My sister-in-law said...
1. Running
2. Ice cream
3. Documenting life (this is so true! I love documenting life in all forms)
4. Blogging
5. Jordan

My brother said...
1. Grammar
2. Being right
3. Winning
4. Chicago
5. Family
And... clearly my brother think I'm a piece of work! Being right and winning both made the list. Ha! He's right, though. I do love being right. And, Jordan and I are both hoping Baby Bum doesn't get my competitive streak. Good luck to us if that happens.

My sister said...
1. Reading (how did no one else say this?!)
2. Friends (Not sure if she meant the show Friends or my actual friends, but either way she's right)
3. Avoiding snakes
4. Matching (as in, I cannot stand matching outfits! When I left my old job, my coworkers pulled the best. prank. ever. on me. Seriously, genius and hilarious and terrifying if you hate matching as much as I do.)
5. People using correct grammar

So there you have it! There were a few similarities but also a lot of differences. The interesting thing is that I can't disagree with any of these! I am admittedly obsessed with all of the above.

So did you find out anything new about me? I hope so! Did any of these surprise you? What would your closest family and friends say YOU are obsessed with?
Bailie @ The Hemborg Wife said...

Friends is a good thing with either meaning to be obsessed with!

I love the spin that you put on this post! I'm going to have to try this even though I'm kind of terrified about what answers people will give. LOL!!!! :)

I had no idea that you were so afraid of snakes....I'm the SAME way.

I love how so many of your family members put the same things (blogging, cleaning, grammar, snakes...)! I guess those are things that you really love (and hate).

What five items would you list for yourself?

Brittany said...

I saw this on Erin's blog and absolutely loved the idea! I think I'll have to do it in the next couple weeks, too! I love to see the ones that overlap for people. Also, I need to hear more about this matching issue.

Caroline @ In Due Time said...

eat it again?

Okay. So I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who feels a little weird about posting serious stuff on my blog... It's just hard when you're naturally lighthearted!
Anyway, this is SUCH fun idea! It's kind of a new take on things, though, since you're asking other people to tell you what you're obsessed with. I may try it out myself... although I'm a tad bit scared of what people will say. Lol.

This is such a fun post! Love it--and the matching outfits prank is hilarious!

Hahaha grammar and literally. I need to do this!

This is great! I saw it over on Erin's blog as well and totally plan on doing it soon. I had no idea about the snakes! Interesting! And I definitely just went and rechecked a post I put up yesterday to confirm my use of literally would be interpreted correctly. It did literally happen, but the reader would have to use a bit of context clues to confirm proper use of the word. I don't like it when people misuse grammar (or words like literally) either! :)

Hahaha! Your old office sounds hilarious. I love that they documented the outfits and you still didn't notice! I also really like this theme. I played the game a couple weeks ago. I got "blogging", "dressing your dog up in human clothes", and "never making a mistake."

Reading, grammar, and avoiding snakes. Those are my top 3 priorities in life.

Kerry @ Till Then Smile Often said...

I love that blogging and ice cream made a few lists. I would have picked running for sure too. Loving people had to be the best answer, so sweet.

Miriam said...

I seriously love your family. It's awesome how close you are! How interesting that people around us all see us differently! From reading your blog, my 5 for you would be:
1. Blogging
2. Crunchy peanut butter
3. Running
4. Reading
5. Documenting life

Oh my gosh, I went back and read the matching story. SO hilarious and what fun/awesome coworkers you had!!! Haha :) Crunchy PB for the win, I had some this morning !

Some of the answers were hilarious! I love how, for your sister-in-law, ice cream and blogging both come before Jordan. Snakes and landfills are pretty cool too. :)

This is such a fun idea!! I'm so interested to know what my friends and family would say about me! I'm going to have to ask them! Girl...I still can't get over the fact that you like crunchy pb (shakes head). ;)

Kristen @ See You In A Porridge said...

this is hilarious! except for the pb because come on, creamy is not that bad! its delish.

Kenzie @ Life According to Kenz said...

What a fun and hilarious post! "Doing stuff I see on blogs..." HAHA! We are all guilty, I think!

Sara Oss said...

I would have thought your birthday would have made it to a list.

I'm totally afraid to ask someone to do this for me. I'd guess travel, politics, a clean house, training my dog well and.being right/winning/stubborn would probably get the most votes.

I love the idea of asking other people about yourself! What a good way to see how people see you. And it's a good glimpse into who you are for us! :)

Candace Shiflet said...

hahah I keep seeing these on peoples blogs!! i can already guess what people would say about me 1. blogging 2. camers lens 3. swimming haha

Avoiding snakes made me laugh out loud. I too absolutely HATE snakes. Even photos of them. Completely terrified. I refuse to go hiking in the summer (even though I love hiking) because the chances of seeing snakes are much higher. Those little bastards. We go to Iceland this year and for ONCE in my life I will get to hike without the fear of running into one. Bring on bears, mountain lions, rats, spiders, etc. Snakes are pure evil.

My obsession (I can only think of one):
1. Cleaning. Sad but true. I am so obsessed with a clean house.

Soooo, this was a BRILLIANT idea for this post! I actually love it and may just have to copy you sometime. I have a feeling blogging will be in my family's responses, that's for sure. I literally--and yes, I did use that word on purpose, haha--use that "So I was reading on a blog/Pinterest..." line alllll the time. :)

Also, you'll have to share this bug thing sometime--are you like fascinated by them? Did you get an infestation? Because all I can think about is how much I hate seeing bugs in the house! Or how I just came inside from picking blueberries because there was a bee, haha.

Oh, and I just started watching Friends (for the first time ever). And I can't believe I didn't start sooner!

Thanks for linking up!

This was so much fun to read! Now I want to ask my close friends and family the top 5 things they think I'm obsessed with--I just want to hear what they'd say! I bet we'd have some similar ones--blogging, ice cream, grammar, and being right would probably wind up somewhere on my lists too.

Diana L. said...

this is such a good post idea, I might do it in the future! I also do the "I was reading a blog and..."

Rachel said...

hahaha--"being right." Nothing wrong with that.
I just asked Angel what the 5 things that I'm most obsessed with are, since he's sitting in the room with me and he said:
1. Me
2. The English Language
3. Dresses
4. Nachos al Carbon
5. Malaysia

Sarah @ Sometimes Photojenik said...

I LOVE this post idea! How fun is that! I can totally relate on your fear of snakes... can't handle them! Also... under Jordan's list where you start your sentences "so I read this blog article".... HAHAHA I'm pretty sure Alex has the exact same reaction now!

rachel morris // the commonplace blog said...

I love this approach!
I'm pretty sure the "So I read this on a blog...." line with my husband cues him to stop listening.

This is hilarious. I love the different perspectives. Can't way to try this format, such a fun post. Thanks for sharing!

I had no idea you were so afraid of snakes. They are gross. People always told me when we were moving to Myanmar " YOu know the world's worst snakes live there?" blah blah blah! BUT apparently people do die a lot from snake bites here but it is because they don't have medical care.

AND this is random too but I went to a snake show in Thailand. I didn't know we were going to something like that. I started out on the second row and by the end I was at the back of the bleachers scared to death. It was disturbing. They brought around a cobra for us to pet and I could just poke it and then I was terrified. ha ha! If you have trouble going into labor I will send you a picture and it will get you going ;)

My family would say I'm obsessed with:

1. Coffee
2. Nephews
3. blogging
4. being emotional =) in a good way.
