A Day in the Life in 72 Seconds

10.13.2014

This day in the life video was inspired by two blog posts I read recently: Amanda's day in the life video and Caitlin's video of her vacation in the mountains

I've done a few "Day in the Life" posts (to name a few: 12-12-12 / 2nd anniversary / 3rd anniversary / 27th birthday). I really like documenting my days and looking back to see exactly what I did on such and such day, but I'd never thought of doing a video before.

Here's what I did:

I put my point-and-shoot by my bed so it would be right there when I woke up in the morning. Throughout the day I filmed 3- to 4-second clips of the things I did, and at the end of the day, I used iMovie to cut and combine everything into the 72-second video. Then I muted all the clips and added a song over the top. (Don't you love how I sound like I actually know what I'm talking about?)

Hope you enjoy!

Oh, and P.S. Just in case you have no faith in my ability to evade internet creepers, no, that is not the real code to my office building. I'm punching random numbers.

Also, that thing I'm eating with a fork is Pioneer Woman's banana bread. So good.

Also x2, no I'm not typing with one hand. I'm fake typing with one hand while holding the camera in the other. Don't judge me! This video is as real as it gets.

Oh that is so great!! Really, really love it! Also, I approve of all your food choices: banana bread, PB&J sandwich, and sour patch kids? You are one of my people.

I adore this post idea! I've always loved day-in-the-life posts but videos? Brilliant idea, friend. Just brilliant. Would you mind if I copied you (and credited you, of course!)? :)

And I also love that you had some Sour Patch Kids and watched New Girl, too (and have Grace for the Good Girl on your bed stand table!).

Of course you can! I'd love to see your video :)

That was awesome! Also I was so confused at first when you were looking at sandals, I forget not everyone lives in arctic tundra like me!

This is so cool! I am not talented enough to make one of these. Well maybe, but I think it's more a question of patience. :)

How cool! I got the impression that you work a pretty early shift - by choice? (Or maybe you just have a really long commute.)

LOVE this! :) What a fun idea for a post-- might have to do one of these myself!

Love this - so fun!! Definitely approve of the sour patch kids. Go girl.

I work 8-5, and my commute is about 25 minutes. Although due to the construction on my route, I usually have to leave a little early to somewhat avoid rush hour, and I get to work around 7:40ish. Maybe that's why it looks darker outside.

I'm totally LOVING the one-handed typing. It's so realistic, and I'm going to be convinced that you always type with only one hand.

But I am totally judging you for eating the blue sour patch kid. I'm sorry, but WHAT THE CRAP ARE THOSE? I boycott the blue ones. They totally ruin the perfect medley of flavors we have come to love.

What a great idea! I love your office. It looks really sunny, bright, and cheery. Hopefully that makes for a happy worker? Also, love that you get up early to run. Even if it's on a treadmill ;o)

What a fun idea! I really enjoyed your 72 second video. I was also impressed that a day could be so well-captured in 72 seconds. I loved the shots of your commute! Looks so familiar...

I loved this! Props for catching moments all day! I have a feeling my day would look really boring.

Ahh this is way more entertaining than writing it all out! :) I can't wait to snack throughout the day again once I have my Invisalign off!

Tracy said...

This is so fun! You cracked me up with your alternating typing and snacking.

I love that you did it in a video format! Morning workouts ugh! Snacking all day, I can relate!

I think that you're going to love this in years to come and your kids will too someday!!! You need to do a holiday version. And can I just say I loved your lunch time car shot, your shoe choosing in the AM, and Jordan's wave when you arrived home? Great job! :)

That was fun! I have the song stuck in my head now, though. :)

Wow that's awesome! I could never get my day down to 72 seconds. I am not super busy or important but I am not that creative. So good!

So, the short answer is yes I did like it.

However, the author's super casual writing style annoyed me, and I felt like he name-dropped a lot about the people he's met and the stuff he's done, and it wasn't always necessary. I think if you have a strong understanding of the Bible, then the concepts he talks about are awesome. I felt like I learned some things about prayer that I found helpful and encouraging. But I think if you just read this without a grasp of what Jesus teaches about prayer, you might get the impression that if you pray hard enough for something, you will get it. I don't think that's what the author is saying, but it could be easily read that way if you aren't careful. He did have a short section on this, but I wanted him to talk more about what you're supposed to do when the answer is No. He'll say things about "when God hasn't answered yet," but I'm like, "maybe he did answer, and the answer was no." You know? But yes it was good.

Girl, you know it!

The Lady Okie said...

Thank you! I am not important or super busy either, but this was fun to make :)

The Lady Okie said...

If I can do it, anyone can! Seriously, I had no idea what I was doing :) It did take some patience, though, cutting all those clips.

your video has such an easy emphasis on the every day things that make life absolutely lovely. example? the sour punch kids and your husband smiling/waiving when you get home <3

I am pretty impressed by your editing ability, not gonna lie! I've thought of doing a video like this for a while but I just don't know if I could edit it that well. Maybe I'll try again! Great vlog and thanks for sharing your day with us :)
