Waterpark Weekend in Texas

7.02.2018

I wrote last week about how summer as a working mom can be kind of a guilt trip in not being able to do all the fun summer things with the kids and not having much different about our daily routine. But we didn't let that stop us from packing our weekends full of social functions with two weddings, J's first birthday party, and two trips down to Texas! It wasn't necessarily by choice that we have 5 completely full weekends in a row, and it certainly made for a hectic start to the work/daycare week when we still had to fit in grocery shopping, laundry, and a half-hearted attempt at cleaning up after ourselves. But we had a lot of fun family time, and that is always one of my favorite things!
Two weekends ago we celebrated my brother's 30th birthday at a waterpark lake place. I honestly don't even know what to call it, but it was super neat and definitely something I would recommend if you live in the area! R had so.much.fun and didn't want to leave. That girl is fearless in the water and when it comes to going down slides and walking on her own. They had a lot of kid-friendly areas to stand and play and kid-sized slides also! I wish I would have gotten more pictures of R playing in the water, but we were having too much fun! I even jumped off the high dive, which I haven't done in many years, and R watched and cheered "Yay, Mama!" for me :)

There were a lot of areas with picnic benches and grills, and brother and dad grilled hot dogs and brats, and there was watermelon, of course! J was exhausted and fell asleep in the pack 'n' play. When he woke up, he opened the birthday present my brother and sister-in-law had brought for him since they weren't able to be at his party. My grandparents were also there! They are super spry and agile for being in their 80s, and it's such a blessing to see them have such fun with their great-grandchildren.
^^^ Side note: These are R's shoes. If you haven't heard of Natives, these are the perfect shoes for summer! Since they can be a bit pricy, I bought a pair last year for R that were green, which I thought could be gender neutral, and I plan on J wearing them next summer. However, you can also find Natives for really good prices on Kidizen! Use my referral code (theladyokie) to get $5 off your first purchase. R's purple natives were purchased a few months ago from Kidizen for over half off the retail price.

We spent about 4 hours eating and playing in the water (not at the same time), and then headed back to my parents' house to clean up and having birthday dinner. We also got to meet my new niece! She was 2.5 weeks old when I finally got to see her, and she was so sleepy and snuggly.

PLUS, guys. She pooped while I was holding her and I just handed her to my sister-in-law and went on my way. Aunt life is the best life.
I don't remember why we went outside and got sparklers, but it happened, and I tried out some different settings on my camera and got some fun shots of my dad and Jordan. All in all, it was an exhausting but super fun weekend! Considering it was June in Texas, the weather could not have been better. It was overcast and cool(ish) and so, so nice.

So that was two weekends ago. I still haven't recapped either wedding we went to in June. At the beginning of June we travelled to Texas for my cousin's wedding. Last weekend one of our best friends got married, and Jordan was a groomsman! I wore the Stitch Fix dress that received conflicting opinions on the side tassel bow. It was a perfect match to Jordan's suit and tie, and not gonna lie we looked gooooood. I'm just saying ;) But I'll save that for another post.

I hope you have had a fabulous start to July so far! This is birthday month for Jordan and I, and R keeps saying, "First it's Mama's birthday, then it's Dada's birthday, then it's my birthday. I'll be three!" She's kind of the best.

Our weekends have been crazy busy but I'm just kind of rolling with it! It makes the work week tough, but you know what, summer is too short!
