It's

My

Birthday!
[source]
This morning--at 1:17 a.m., to be exact--I turned 27 years old, which is officially closer to 30 than it is to 25, which officially makes me a little bit sad.

This year I've been thinking a lot about what's happened since my last birthday, and I have to say... honestly, last year kind of sucked. This time exactly last year I was flying to Illinois for a friend's bachelorette party. I had just quit my job and was on a one-week retirement before starting my new job. Soooooo much has happened since then.

Most notably is the fact that I don't have a full-time job. This is no more noticeable than on Fridays, when everyone's like IT'S FRIDAY! And I'm like, it's Friday? Yeah, Fridays mean nothing to me anymore.

Oh what's that now? A long weekend? That's great. Little do you know that my entire life is a long weekend. Sometimes it feels like the Friday of a long weekend and I'm all:

But lately it's felt more like the Sunday of a long weekend where all you've done for three days is sit around and watch TV and now your butt hurts and you're like:

RIP, Lost. RIP.

There's a chance I'm being a bit dramatic right now, but there's nothing like a birthday to bring on the personal reflection.

ANYWAY, today is my 27th birthday, and no matter what is going on in my life I will always love birthdays. When I was younger, birthdays were the best because it was the one day where no one could fight me over the front seat. These days, I'm much more mature and use birthdays as a way to get everyone to cater to me on every level possible.

Since it's my birthday and I love giving gifts, I wanted to give YOU something. And, you're not going to know what it is because it's going to be something specific to the person who wins! (Note: I stole this idea from Jen because I thought it was awesome.)

I can tell you that the prize will be worth exactly $18 (cuz that's all I have left from my blow money this month), and once I've chosen a winner I'll figure out something awesome you will love. Or, at least hopefully something you'll like since $18 can't buy a whole lot more than a few packs of gum.

Enter using the giveaway tool below. You get 1 entry just for being really cool, and a total of up to 6 entries. Good luck! And thanks, as always, for reading.

  12. Have a great birthday! I totally get the quarter-life crisis thing. Being in your 20's is a LOT harder than I thought. I think I'm in a constant state of reevaluation.

  13. Happy birthday!! I felt the same way at 27. But now I'm racing to 30. And I would kill to be 27 again. Perspective. :-)

  15. Happy Birthday!

I totally understand the crisis. This time last year I was making more money, being showered with accolades as I bade my tearful students goodbye, and packing for a move to the U.S. After a year of sadness and general melancholy I am finally glad, truly glad, to be back home. You'll get there!

  16. When I win, you can teach Ava how to drink from a sippy cup. That will be sufficient. And I already have the cups, so you use your blow money on yourself! ONE DAY I will stop obsessing about the manner in which my baby eats. That day is not today.

HAPPY BIRYHDAY! I recognize that typo but think it looks funny so it's staying. This year is going to be awesome. How do I know this? Because you're awesome. You've run a marathon. You dress super cute. You have an entertaining blog. You have a warm heart. Sit in the front seat all day long, Reese. All day long.

  19. Happy Birthday!!! It was a strange realization, when Greg turned 27, that he was closer to thirty than 25. However, the age has done him well. AND I know tons of people now who are thirty-ish or above, and they actually seem younger than me, in all the good ways. I have a sneaky feeling this will be you, forever! You are so cute and this post made me laugh and think, "something really awesome is gonna happen this year for Amanda." Have a GREAT birthday, eat some cake, and know we over here in ABQ, NM are thinking of you! :) It'll be a great year!!

  23. Happy Birthday, my birthday friend! If I win this fantabulous prize of awsomisity (new word, don't hate) you can buy me a cupcake and keep the change.

Can't believe we only have 3 years to 30. Then we're going to be old. Glad I married an old man, because then I stay forever young. Or something like that...

  30. Happy Belated Birthday!! (I meant to call you yesterday but it slipped my mind in the midst of wedding stuff. Yep, I'm THAT bride, the one who can't think of anything but wedding...) Anyway, I can never forget your birthday because it is the same as Curtis's dad, and there must be something about you July 10th people because he also shamelessly advertises his upcoming birthday to everyone who will listen! Love you!
