Sometimes I wonder why I have any friends.
I promise I'm not trying to be dramatic or fish for compliments, but for real. There are multiple reasons why I can be a huge pain in the you-know-what, and sometimes I'm just like, Self, you're obnoxious.
We all have our "things." Our unique quirks, annoying habits, and little flaws that make us who we are. But we all have good things too and there are moments when I say to myself, Self, you're great. That's what I'll be talking about today, because I think you guys need a reminder of how awesome I am.
That was a joke. I think.
Anyway, moving on.
10 THINGS I LIKE ABOUT MYSELF
1. I'm funny.
And it's not just that I think I'm funny (which I do), but other people think I'm funny. It's fun being funny.
2. I'm reliable.
If you ask me to do something or show up somewhere, you can count on me to do it. I don't cancel plans at the last minute. I don't forget to pick someone up at the airport. I always try as best I can to do what I say I'm going to do. It's important to me.
3. I'm low maintenance.
I rarely wear makeup, and I don't spend a lot of time on my hair. I dress casual for the most part. It's not that makeup and hair and fancy clothes are bad things, and it's not that I don't care about how I look, but I like the fact that I can be showered and heading out the door in fifteen minutes if I had to. It's a lot less stressful for everyone.
4. I'm a good writer.
As you already saw, I'm not good with painting or drawing. But I do love words. Not everyone can write well, and while I believe you can learn to write better, I don't know if you can learn to write. I also love that I can write funny. Writing funny is hard, and one of my favorite things is when people tell me they laughed while reading a blog post.
Is it lame to go back through your old tweets just to laugh and admire your own cleverness?
I'm asking for a friend.
5. I have nice legs.
This is totally vain, but I really love my legs. Thank you, running! I've always been a calf girl. I swoon over a shapely pair of calves.
6. I'm a good cook.
I'm not going to be a top chef any time soon, but I enjoy cooking, and I like that I can whip up a tasty dish or dessert.
7. I don't procrastinate.
When I decide to do something, I do it immediately. Now, of course this isn't always the case. I procrastinate cleaning the bathroom, for example, but for the most part, I like to get things done. This trait of mine can lead to stress when I am unable to do something at the exact moment I want to do it, but at the end of the day, my motivation to get things done is something I like about myself.
8. I'm good at buying gifts.
I pride myself on buying my friends and family meaningful, thoughtful gifts. Gifts are 100% my love language, and when birthdays and Christmas are concerned, the budget pretty much goes out the window. It's an emotional high when I know I've found just the right thing for someone.
9. I'm easy to talk to.
I'll pretty much talk to anyone. I'm good at making conversation, and I'm good at including other people in the conversations. High five for extroversion!
10. I'm adventurous.
I'll try anything at least once (unless it involves a snake). When it comes to food or experiences, I think you don't know unless you try. One of the most adventurous things I've ever done was go sky diving a few years ago. I've tried singing karaoke (I'm terrible), and the other day at the grocery store I grabbed a rutabaga to cook even though I had no idea what it was or how to cook it.
For the record, it's a root vegetable akin to a turnip. Taste and texture, I could compare it to a potato. Not difficult to cook at all. Go me!
* * *
Now wasn't that fun? I hope my real-life friends would agree about these ten I've chosen. I ran them by Jordan, and he gave me the green light, so I think I'm good.
What's something you like about yourself?
After meeting you I'd agree with your list. I do think you are funny, especially when you wrote that your husband kicked you in your scrotum. ha ha ha ha ha h!
I like that I can brighten people's day. I can't say it's something of my own doing but a gift and I like it.
I think sometimes we have to remind ourselves of our good qualities. We're our own worst critics a lot of times...so to combat against that, I think it's wonderfully healthy to focus on the wonderful things about ourselves. Great post!
I love this! I was thinking of linking up for this too. Being adventurous is definitely a quality I admire... I tend to play it safe most of the time, even when it comes to cooking!
I love this! I am going to find the creator of this 10 Things I Like About Myself Link Up and join in. I'm in need of some positive self-love. #1 is the truest of trues. You are hilarious, if you're ever feeling down, call me and start talking and I'll laugh enough to cheer you up! I really LOL'd at...'I'm asking...for a friend.'
This post made me laugh and I hope that made you smile. Being funny is an art form :)
It's so great to appreciate the wonderful things about yourself. Like you, I also love my legs!
I like my perspective, my drive and my eyes. :)
Funny- one of my best friends and I were both laid off at the same time, it was summer and we would lay by the pool and drink mimosas. When we got depressed about being laid off we would make each other say one thing we liked about ourselves. So dorky but it worked. :)
I seriously like this post. I think I'll write one myself. Also I think we are kindred spirits.
Those are all amazing traits/qualities!! I'm low maintenance too, mostly because I don't know the first thing about doing my hair and makeup ha ha. I can paint my nails? But that's a hassle because they chip five minutes later.
you are definitely funny!
and i love you for who you are, even though i only know you through the snippets of your blog - imagine if i know you in real life :)
O my goodness I totally think that sometimes like how does Fredrik handle me everyday! O and I also think you are funny!
I love your list! And giggled a bit that you talked that you're a calf girl :) Me, I'm totally a back girl, yep, sculpted shoulders/back - hello!
~Katy
Love this! And you ARE funny! HA-LAR-ious, actually!
I'm right there with you on #7 and #2. I get things done and do what I say I'm going to do. I think that sometimes wanting/needing to get something done right away can be stressful for others, but it's less stressful for me when I can check something off my "list" (physical or mental list). I'm jealous of your cooking skills! I leave that up to my husband ;o)
i love this. i need to do this too, it just makes you feel good. and yeah, you do have nice legs!
nice!
I wish I could say I have nice legs...
but I have nice...well...fingers? no, hair? no, its graying...
um, I am nice.
there.
This is great... I'd do good coming up with 2 things I like about myself... maybe I need to try this myself.
I also enjoy being funny. Especially when it's on purpose! :)
I'm proud of you for buying and cooking a rutabaga- I wouldn't know what to do wit it either (heck, I'm not entirely sure what one looks like, and I'd like to think I know a thing or two about food). I like my ability to take charge of a situation- I was born with leadership skills.
I would agree you are funny and a good writer. I like my desire to help others and make others happy is something I like about myself.
You do write funny! When I even try to be funny in real life people always take what I say the wrong way and think I'm either weird or rude...so I'm sure comedy in writing would never work out for me! haha Kudos to you!
I like that I can sit down with some random supplies and have no concrete plan for what I intend to make, but still end up with something I love. I feel like I'm pretty resourceful to not spend a lot of money on my craft endeavors...and I'm pretty sure my hubby appreciates that too (if he ever thought about that I don't go spend all our money on craft supplies...but pretty sure he hasn't thought about it). haha
this post makes me absolutely happy - we have to choose to focus on the positives, and i love how openly you share them - shout them - write them - it's about time we all disclosed what's so good about us :)
YAY! We all need to focus on the things that we are good at and proud of - it's so much healthier than beating ourselves down for the little stuff.
-Amy
This is a great idea! Awesome positive self talk! We have some similar traits, I mean, I think I'm pretty awesome, that's a similar trait, right?
My husband is looking at me strangely because I keep having little giggle fits every 30 seconds or so. I love that you like your legs! Man, I wish I could say I liked my legs. Maybe when I become a runner. :) One thing I do like about myself is that I'm pretty open minded as well as forgiving. Of course I'm not perfect at either one, but I think they are my strengths. Yay for positivity!
Yeah, about those snakes…;)
You are definitely easy to talk to! Love that about ya. Because, I mean, we've had some crazy convos amongst the jungle of the lingerie department. And we didn't even whisper. *fist bump*
I love this this idea!! I always crack up reading your posts so I'm going to agree with #1. I think we should meet in real life so I can confirm the rest!! :P
Ha! Um, yeah we didn't.
I have a medical condition that makes it physically impossible for me to whisper.
Writing funny is a skill to be proud of! I wish more people had it because I absolutely love reading truly funny writing.
I think those are the ten things that anyone would like to have in a friend.
(and without knowing you I would say that all that you said is true)
Now I am off to see what a rutabaga really looks like :-)
love this. I have such a hard time loving myself, I should take time to think of a few things I like.
Very positive post... now if only you could send me some of those amazing gift-giving abilities. I rarely think of things I like about myself, but this post pushed me to do it. I like that I'm funny, there's that.
I think it's healthy to stop and think about reasons that you like yourself - God did uniquely create you and that's a reason to celebrate and be thankful for!
I love that I'm reliable, organized and a go-getter, too. Procrastination is a dirty word. :)
I like your list. I also think I'm funny. Sometimes. There are times when I'm the only one laughing...
I'm a sucker for a good pair of calves, too.....why do you think I married my husband? ;) baha, I kid (only partially)!! I love this...I think I'm going to do a post like this! Great link up!!
Are these your Joel Osteen affirmations?
love these, and I totally LOL'd at the "I'm asking for a friend" bit. Also, being reliable and sticking with a commitment...that's huge, so good for you!
I actually like my legs too. For the most part! And I tried sky diving too a few years ago. I still can't believe it. Now I'm too scared to even think about doing it again.
"Is it lame to go back through your old tweets just to laugh and admire your own cleverness?
I'm asking for a friend."
Crying. You are hilarious.
These are all great things to be proud of! Nice legs, heck yeah! I wish I could say that... I hate my legs. haha! :) And I'm with you on being adventerous with anything that doesn't involve snakes! Ew! :)
"I swoon over a shapely pair of calves" - pretty sure this is what all the girls were saying at balls in the 18th century as they admired the men in their breeches and stockings :P
This is SO funny!
"I think you guys need a reminder of how awesome I am." Well, if someone actually needed reminding, this post would be great evidence.
"Re-reading tweets to admire your own cleverness?" #that'sawesome
