Keep It Local OKC: Kaiser's Buffalo Burgers & Ice Cream Shop

3.19.2014

I did not expect so much feedback on my first "Keep It Local" post! Seriously, I thought I'd maybe get five comments. But you guys seemed to like seeing some local OKC flavor, so here we are again.

Kaiser's isn't technically part of the Keep It Local site. But it should be. It's is a great, local burger place and soda shop. The burgers are good, but the ice cream is goooood. Seriously, it's probably not the best for my rapidly slowing metabolism that Kaiser's is only a few blocks from my office.

Jordan and I came here a few weeks ago with friends for lunch after we hit up a library book sale at the OKC fairgrounds. I've gone back by myself a few times for lunch or a shake (always chocolate!), but the last time the two of us were at Kaiser's together was to take engagement pictures back in March of 2011. We illegally climbed to the top of the plaza court rooftop and took pics in front of the midtown sign. Don't tell.

Kaiser's has been at this location in downtown OKC since 1918! I love the old-fashioned bar and the delicious sodas. Definitely a good place to stop for a burger or even just a shake or ice cream sundae. Their specialty is the bison burger. Yum. If I had to choose, I think S&B's burgers are slightly better, but like I said, Kaiser's ice cream can't be beat.

My college town (Ark City, if you're ever on your way up here) had a small shop that was kind of a gift shop/diner and they have the best cherry limeades along with milkshakes and the usual stuff. I haven't found a small place like that here, although I haven't really looked either.

Sounds and looks pretty good! Too bad I'm an ocean away. :)

Officially hungry for a good, plain cheeseburger and a milkshake! :) I had a peanut butter shake in DisneyWorld that was probably the most yummy flavor of PB EVER!!!

Haven't been here yet! The burger looks really good, and um...are those sweet potato fries I see? That'll definitely put this place on my husband's to-do list because he really loves sweet potato fries!

We thought about getting the Keep it Local app. Unfortunately most of the local restaurants in our neighborhood don't participate, so we've been a little reluctant to get it since we aren't sure how often we would end up using it. I would like to eat locally more often, though, so getting the card might even help be an incentive to take some adventures to some other restaurants outside our "usual". We've gotten into the rut of the only local restaurants we go to these days are Swadley's, Grill on the Hill, or some of the local "Mexican" restaurants.

What a fun looking place! And of course you had to climb illegally to the top of the roof! That sign is fantastic, and the picture is adorable. :)

YUM! I want to go there! I love the charm and retro style it has, so fun! Loved the old pictures you threw in, too :)

Chocolate milkshake. Yes please!

And I see nothing illegal about climbing to the top of that roof. It was for art and love. So all is right in the world.

YUUUMMM. This place looks soo good. If I ever have to drive through OKC again, this will be on my list! (I've driven cross country maybe 7 times?) I love the idea of posting local places, I need to do more of that where I live.

What a cute looking place. I love Bison burgers and the old soda shop type places.

We do have an old fashioned soda shop here...but it's not nearly as cute as I've seen some people blog about. I may just have to make another trip out, though. Seems like an enjoyable spring activity!

the ice cream flavors sound delicious - i'd make it some kind of goal to try them all :) how cute that you have a couple name - jormanda. i can only wish - jon & jen doesn't really meld into anything, does it? joen? jeon? sounds like a chemistry particle...

No, we don't have an old-school soda shop around here, at least none that I've ever discovered. I love that you broke the law to take engagement pictures. :P Some things are worth it.

Oh man, you make me want to move to OKC! This place looks great, illegal pictures and all :) Old school soda shops are so fun to visit and I'm glad the Midwest has a bunch. In Iowa I lived near a town called Wilton which claims to be the birth place of the banana split! While that is a hotly contested origin point, the old timey soda fountain was amazing :)

These places keep reminding me of downtown Joplin. I really miss old towny burger and bbq places. There are tons of local places here in Burbank, but it's not the same as the Mid-West. Also, we do have a candy and soda shop that is amazing! It's not old school, but it's one of our favorite places to go.

Ah! I wish I would have remembered your Keep it Local posts a month or so ago. The Hubbo and I took a day trip to OKC and we were looking for fun/local places for lunch! We ended up at RePUBlic Gastro Pub.

That place looks like a cute restaurant! If I ever make it to OKC I will be sure to stop at this little gem. I always love finding places off the beaten path. They always have more character and fun stories to be told.

This restaurant looks like somewhere we would go on a regular basis if we had one in town! How could you pass up a good burger and good ice cream!? :)

I have been craving a good cheeseburger like you wouldn't believe, and trying so hard to behave. But now, after seeing this, I might have to go to one of my own local places...and pig out. :)
